The api should allow transposition changes implemented at the measure/staff level (with number= attribute).
I am of the school of thought that transposition is a notation convention and not a property of an instrument. I have made this case over and over in the W3C music community, esp. at the MNX site. I can cite my reasoning, but it all comes down to the fact that I am a horn player, and occasionally we have parts that change transposition every few bars. Transposition is like key signatures: a way to reduce accidentals. (As well as a way to make it easier for one player to play all the members of an instrument family with same/similar fingerings.)
