Do I need to operate Task and Snapshot commands manually?

Usually not. Run ait init in the repository, then work through your coding agent. Ait generates or refreshes AGENTS.md with the repository's effective workflow instructions.

Does local use require a server?

No. Local work does not require server setup. Remote infrastructure is used only when you explicitly choose it.
