Arci 1.8

@wenod wenod released this 18 Oct 19:02

Select a message someone sent you, and Arci drafts your reply.

  • Reply. Select an email, a text or a chat message and click Reply on the strip. Apple Intelligence drafts your answer, on your Mac, and copies it — ready to paste into your reply. It's just the reply, in their language and as formal or casual as they were; the greeting and signature are yours.
  • Make it yours. Type in the bar to change it — "shorter", "more formal", "say no, but offer Monday" — and the new draft is copied again.
  • Where it shows up. Over anything you select in Mail, Messages, WhatsApp, Slack, Telegram, Discord, Teams, Outlook, Spark or Signal, and over text anywhere else that reads like a message — a greeting, a sign-off, mail headers, a question for you. Text you're writing gets Fix Grammar instead. Typing "reply" in the bar finds it too.

@wenod wenod released this 18 Oct 14:03

Rewrites of text you've selected go straight back in place, and an app can open as soon as it's the only match.

  • Fix it where it is. Select text you can edit and click Fix Grammar — or pick a change of case, Straighten quotes, Join lines or another text tool from the grid — and it's replaced right there: the text shimmers while Arci works on it, then the old words lift away and the new ones are already in place. No panel, no ↩. ⌘Z in the app takes it back. Fix Grammar runs on Apple Intelligence, on your Mac.
  • Careful about it. If nothing needed changing, Arci says so. If you've clicked elsewhere meanwhile, the rewrite is copied instead of pasted. An answer that doesn't look like your text rewritten is shown to you first. The dissolve uses Screen Recording when Arci has it; without it, a glow sweeps the selection and the text simply changes.
  • Mail and web editors. Text you're writing in Mail, or in a web editor in Safari, now counts as editable: Cut, Paste and Fix Grammar are offered there too.
  • Your own rewrites. An action set to paste whose result is worked out on your Mac — Apple Intelligence or a text template — replaces an editable selection the same way. A cloud AI still shows you its result first.
  • Open the only match. New in Settings → General: once what you type leaves a single app, it opens by itself half a second after your last key. Off unless you turn it on.

Arci 1.6.1

@wenod wenod released this 18 Oct 11:23

The highlight on the chips over selected text now follows the pointer.

  • Hover that keeps up. Moving from one chip to the next, the highlight could stay on the old chip for seconds, or never reach the new one. It now moves the frame the pointer gets there, every time.

Chips over selected text are fast now, and your own actions can show up on their own.

  • Faster chips. The strip appears about 30 ms after you let go of the mouse — it took a third of a second — and a chip opens straight onto its result, with nothing in between. Summarize the page shows "Reading the page" at once.
  • Actions that show up by themselves. Give an action a pattern (Settings → Actions → Offer it for) and it's the first chip over text that fits it, and the top row when you type it. Arci ships four: Open on GitHub for owner/repo, Open on npm, Open DOI and Look Up IP.
  • Text tools. camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, kebab-case and CONSTANT_CASE; a URL slug; join lines; straighten quotes; URL, Base64 and HTML encode and decode. They're chips when the text calls for them — a code name, an encoded string, a paragraph copied out of a PDF — and a word away in the bar.
  • Copy sum for a column of numbers, hex ↔ rgb() as an answer, and Paste Plain when what you copied has fonts or colours.
  • A time chip shows the whole time ("Copy 10:00 PM IST, Thu, 22 Oct").

Keep Mac Awake now lasts through a restart of Arci, and menu-bar apps are in the grid.

  • Keep Mac Awake survives quitting. Quit Arci, or let it update itself, and Keep Mac Awake comes back as it was: Indefinitely stays on, and a 1, 2 or 4 hour span keeps its original end time. A span that ran out while Arci was closed is over.
  • Menu-bar apps in the grid. Apps that live in the menu bar, like PopClip, Stats and Tailscale, show in the grid and as you type, and so do Apple's Screenshot, Time Machine, System Information and Mission Control.
  • A thank-you link. Arci's menu bar menu and the foot of Settings now link to Buy Me a Coffee, for when Arci saves you time. It doesn't unlock anything, and Arci works the same either way.

Arci 1.4

@wenod wenod released this 17 Oct 20:33

Select text anywhere, and Arci offers what fits it, right there.

  • Chips over selected text. Select text with the mouse in any app and a small strip appears over it: Copy, Append and Search, with Cut and Paste where the text can be edited — then what fits this text: a YouTube link's Summarize and Transcribe, a link's Summarize the page, a word's Define, an address, an email, a time, another language. The grid opens the bar with the selection as its chip. Settings → General → When you select text turns it off, or keeps it out of the apps you list.
  • ⌘E brings the selection in. Press ⌘E on Arci's empty bar and what's selected in the app you were in becomes the chip. Record a shortcut in Settings → General to do it from anywhere.
  • Summarize the page. For any link. When the page is open in Safari, Arci reads it from there — signed in, past a paywall; otherwise it fetches it. Ask follow-ups in the bar.
  • Define. A word's entry from the Mac's own Dictionary — offline, instant.
  • Fix Grammar, in place. Text you select in a field you can edit gets Fix Grammar as a chip, and ↩ puts the corrected text where your selection was. Any rewrite of a selection goes back the same way; ⌘C still copies.
  • Safari selections, read directly, without a trip through the clipboard.

@wenod wenod released this 17 Oct 10:04

Arci comes in three themes now, and you pick one by how it looks.

  • Themes. Settings → General → Theme shows each one as a small picture of the panel; click one to switch. Ink is Prayukta's own colours, sharp and mono, and stays the default. Paper is the same on warm paper. Dusk is new: plum glass your desktop shows through, soft rounded corners, a peach accent and the Mac's own type.
  • New names. Dark is now Ink and Light is now Paper. Whichever you had, you still have.
  • Code stays monospaced in answers, whatever the theme.

Arci 1.2

Choose a tag to compare

@wenod wenod released this 17 Oct 07:55

Arci 1.2 keeps your searches together, with the App Store among them, and the bar stays where it is.

  • Search App Store: a new search that opens the App Store's own results for what you typed. ⌥↩ still opens web searches in the panel; App Store links go to the App Store.
  • Searches together: Google, the App Store and any search you add sit under Search in the panel and in Settings → Actions, the rest under Actions.
  • The bar stays put: a long list scrolls inside the panel instead of making it grow.
  • A raised bar: a soft shade sits above the bar, and its top line turns gold while it has your typing.
  • Settings is taller, and shows Arci's version with links to the docs, changelog, support and privacy.
  • Share my builds: a switch under the Build field (Settings → Actions) shares what you build with Prayukta to help improve Arci. It's off unless you turn it on; https://arci.prayukta.com/privacy says what's kept.

Arci 1.1

@wenod wenod released this 16 Oct 20:51

Arci 1.1 finds your files, and opens web pages right in the panel.

  • Search Files: type ~ and the start of a file's name to find it in your home folder and iCloud Drive, using Spotlight's index on your Mac. ↩ opens it, ⌘↩ shows it in Finder, and with nothing typed you see what you opened lately. Press ⇥ there to let Arci search Desktop, Documents and Downloads too.
  • Web pages in the panel: ⌥↩ on a web search opens the page where your apps are. ↩ takes it to your browser, esc comes back.
  • esc goes back from an opened note or answer, even after you click into its text.
  • Copy Screen Text (⇧⌘8) opens System Settings straight away when it needs Screen Recording, and tells you when Arci has to reopen.
