Smart Lab Index v0.7.0 beta 3

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

Windows local-first evaluation build for the Smart Lab Index request-only beta.

Beta 3 adds a standard Windows installer:

  • Per-user installation without administrator rights.
  • Start Menu entry and optional desktop shortcut.
  • Branded application and Setup icons plus Windows version metadata.
  • Stable upgrade identity and normal Windows uninstall support.
  • Existing indexes and settings under %USERPROFILE%.smart-lab-index are preserved during upgrades and uninstall.
  • Portable ZIP remains available as a fallback.

Install:

  1. Download smart-lab-index-setup-v0.7.0-windows-x64.exe.
  2. Open Setup and complete the short installer.
  3. Start Smart Lab Index from the Start Menu and choose a laboratory folder.

Smart Lab Index reads the selected folder locally and does not upload its contents. This unsigned beta may trigger Windows SmartScreen. It is an evaluation build, not validated production or regulated-use software.

Verification: 224 automated tests passed. Native builds passed on Windows x64, Linux x64, and macOS ARM64. The Windows Setup was compiled, silently installed, run through the complete synthetic no-egress index, shut down, and uninstalled in GitHub Actions run 31579918843. The attached SHA-256 manifests were verified after download.

Windows local-first evaluation build for the Smart Lab Index request-only beta.

Beta 2 improves large-folder startup:

  • The workspace opens before automatic filesystem discovery begins.
  • The folder handoff now shows Opening workspace instead of remaining on a preparation screen during the scan.
  • Discovery progress is visible in the workspace while indexing continues.
  • Network roots are validated once per run instead of again for every document.
  • Per-file containment checks and full content checksums remain enabled.

Install:

  1. Download smart-lab-index-v0.7.0-windows-x64.zip.
  2. Use Extract All; do not run it from inside the ZIP.
  3. Open the extracted smart-lab-index folder and double-click smart-lab-index.exe.

This unsigned beta may trigger Windows SmartScreen. It is an evaluation build, not validated production or regulated-use software.

Verification: 217 automated tests and native build/launch/index/shutdown smoke tests passed on Windows x64, Linux x64, and macOS ARM64 in GitHub Actions run 31578691829.

Windows local-first evaluation build for the Smart Lab Index request-only beta.

What this build does:

  • Runs entirely on the Windows PC and binds only to 127.0.0.1.
  • Starts in no-egress mode and uses bundled interface assets.
  • Reads the selected source folder without modifying source files.
  • Indexes supported PDF, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, and TXT files with process-isolated parsers.
  • Stores the local index under the current Windows user profile.

How to test:

  1. Download smart-lab-index-v0.7.0-windows-x64.zip.
  2. Use Extract All; do not run the executable from inside the ZIP.
  3. Open the extracted smart-lab-index folder and double-click smart-lab-index.exe.
  4. Choose a small copied or synthetic lab folder for the first test.
  5. Use Close application in the interface when finished.

This beta is unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen may require More info then Run anyway. It is an evaluation build, not a claim of validated production or regulated-use readiness.

Verification: 216 automated tests and native build/launch/index/shutdown smoke tests passed on Windows x64, Linux x64, and macOS ARM64 in GitHub Actions run 31577046458.
