Status Date Tracker is a plugin for Obsidian that adds a date when the status
property changes.
When a note changes from:
status: backlogto:
status: in-progressthe plugin adds or updates a property named after the new status:
status: in-progress
in-progress: 2026-07-10Dates use the device's local calendar date in the fixed YYYY-MM-DD format.
This format does not follow Daily Notes, Templates, locale, or other Obsidian
date-format settings. The ISO format keeps values unambiguous, sortable, and
compatible with Obsidian date properties. Existing status-date properties
remain in the note as a compact transition history.
The tracked property defaults to status. You can choose another property
under Settings → Status Date Tracker → Tracked property.
Some transitions should keep their first date permanently. Add those statuses to the plugin settings:
- The first transition adds the date if the property is absent.
- Later transitions back into that status preserve the existing property.
- Non-final status dates are updated whenever the note re-enters that status.
Configure the comma-separated list under Settings → Status Date Tracker → Final statuses. The list is empty by default, so every status date is overwritten until final statuses are configured.
Alternatively, enable Preserve first date for every value to keep the first date for every tracked value. When enabled, the separate Final statuses field is hidden because it is no longer needed.
After the plugin is accepted into the Obsidian Community directory:
