This is a major release that fundamentally reshapes how Valora works. Everything is now a plugin — including the brain.
What's new
Biologically-inspired memory — now replaceable
Valora's memory system mimics how the human brain retains and forgets information. Memories decay over time using the Ebbinghaus forgetting curve, grow stronger each time they are recalled, and errors are remembered twice as long so agents don't repeat the same mistakes. Three stores capture different kinds of knowledge: episodic observations (7-day half-life), consolidated patterns (30-day), and architectural decisions (21-day).
In 3.0.0, this entire subsystem has been extracted into valora-plugin-memory-vault and exposed behind a clean MemoryProvider contract.
The vault plugin ships as the default, but you can now replace the memory backend entirely — swap in Postgres, SQLite, a graph database, or an in-memory cache — just by installing an alternative memory plugin and setting memory.provider in your config. No fork required.
A fully plugin-driven architecture
Valora's core has been rebuilt from the ground up. All built-in commands and AI agents — engineering, QA, product, design, platform, security, documentation, and more — are now delivered as standalone plugin bundles. A leaner core, cleaner separation of concerns, and the freedom to deploy only what your team needs.
Plugins can now contribute CLI commands
Third-party and community plugins can register their own subcommands directly into the valora CLI. Build a plugin, ship a command — no fork required.
Ollama support — run LLMs locally
A new valora-plugin-ollama brings fully local AI to Valora. It manages binary detection, process lifecycle, model management, and seamless routing — all out of the box.
Automatic updates
Valora now checks for updates in the background. Run valora update to upgrade, or configure the behaviour (auto, reminder, or disabled) in your project config.
Obsidian integration
valora-plugin-obsidian sets up a pre-configured Obsidian vault for your project — categories, workspace, graph view, and core plugins — ready in a single command.
Cross-duplication audit
valora-plugin-quality-gate scans your codebase for structural duplication: sibling group detection, concern density scoring, and import fingerprinting. Run valora audit scan for a JSON report, or let the LLM produce a narrative summary.
Pluggable compression strategies
Compression strategies for TypeScript, Python, and universal formats are now separate plugins. Any plugin can register its own strategy via compression.registerStrategy.
MCP server contributions from plugins
Plugins can now register Model Context Protocol servers, unlocking deeper AI tool integrations without touching Valora's core.
Breaking changes
- The memory configuration namespace has changed. Legacy keys under
memory.*(half-lives, embedding, recall thresholds) must be moved toplugins.memory-vault.*. Valora will surface a clear error on startup pointing to the migration guide. - All core commands and agents have moved to plugin bundles. Update your configuration to reference the corresponding core plugin.
- The plugin API (
PluginAPI) has new required surfaces — any custom plugin built against 2.x will need updating.
