Release list
WingletReader 0.2.1-alpha.1
Second public alpha release from the WingletReader Software. This version is to be seen as a production snapshot and not a working product. Use at your own discretion
Description:
The second public alpha of WingletReader — the completed EPUB and Winglet
Book import paths, reading stats, goals and streaks, and stricter progress
integrity, in one tested snapshot.
This release also tells you, right where you meet them, which parts of the app
are still rough: Read While Working, EPUB import, and Create Portable Drive now
carry a warning notice, in the same style as the existing Transmute warning.
Install
Download WingletReader-0.2.1-alpha.1-Setup.exe below and run it.
Windows 10/11, 64-bit. No admin rights needed. The other files here
(latest.yml, .blockmap) are used by the built-in updater — you don't need
them.
⚠️ Expect a SmartScreen warning — this is normal. Alpha builds are not yet
code-signed, so Windows may show "Windows protected your PC" with only a
Don't run button. Click More info, then Run anyway (the publisher
line reads Unknown publisher). The warning is because the installer is
unsigned, not because anything is wrong with it. Never turn off SmartScreen or
your antivirus to install an alpha build. Code signing is planned before
WingletReader is distributed publicly.
Verify your download (optional, ~10 seconds). In PowerShell, in the folder
you downloaded to:
Get-FileHash .\WingletReader-0.2.1-alpha.1-Setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256Expected SHA-256 for WingletReader-0.2.1-alpha.1-Setup.exe:
f1220ca8a13de3565a5174767802a4e6306047138a95d067dbee269cb63aba8a
A match means the file is byte-for-byte what was built. If it does not match,
do not run it — delete it, download again, and check once more.

Added
- Open Winglet Books. Import a curated
.wbookfile as a complete,
chaptered book. WingletReader validates it before adding anything, shows a
confirmation card, and refuses duplicate, malformed, or unsupported books
without changing your library. - Reading stats, goals and streaks. When a session ends, the dialog shows
that session's numbers — words read, time, your measured reading speed,
pauses, rewinds, and a 0–100 Reading Fluency score — compared against your
own recent sessions. A banner on the home screen tracks today's words, goal
progress and reading time; clicking it opens a new Stats screen with a
Dashboard (today's and lifetime numbers plus personal highscores) and Graphs
(each metric across today, the week, the month, or all time). Set a daily
reading goal in pages and a weekly target of reading days — in Settings or
right on the Dashboard; meeting your goal builds a streak, protected by
weekly rest days, and earns points. Re-reading after a rewind never
double-counts, and everything stays on your device. - Open EPUB books. Import
.epube-books — the format public libraries and
Project Gutenberg hand out. The book keeps the publisher's own chapters,
and its words and punctuation are imported exactly as written. A card shows
title, author, chapter count and word count before anything is added.
Pictures are left out (the card tells you how many). Copy-protected (DRM)
books are declined clearly, by name. - Warnings where the app is still rough. Three features now say up front
what to expect, before you commit to anything:- Read While Working — a notice at the top of its settings: it is in
active development, capture and overlay behaviour can change between
builds, and the overlay may miss or mis-read selections in some apps. - EPUB import — on the confirmation card: EPUB text is imported as
published, without the usual cleanup, so spacing and punctuation can look
unusual; chapter structure comes from the book's own table of contents,
and some books lack a good one. - Create Portable Drive — above the button: the portable drive path has
not been verified end to end on a real machine in this alpha; keep a
backup of your data before relying on it.
- Read While Working — a notice at the top of its settings: it is in
Changed
- Reading progress counts only words you actually read. Skipping forward,
dragging the scrubber, or jumping to a bookmark no longer counts the words
you passed over. Rewinding and re-reading still does not double-count. - Reading time now means active reading time. Long waits in tap-to-read,
suspended playback, and time spent paused no longer inflate time totals or
longest-session records; the home banner, Dashboard, and Graphs all use
active time. - Goal changes no longer rewrite today's or this week's results. Once you
have read that day, daily-goal edits take effect tomorrow; once the week has
begun, weekly-target edits take effect next Monday. The goal editor tells you
when a change is waiting.
Notes
- Updating from
0.2.0-alpha.1keeps your library, settings, and progress
intact; reading stats start counting from the first session you read on the
new build. - Every published build is produced by an automated pipeline that runs the
full test suite before releasing. - This is alpha software. Feedback is the most useful thing you can give:
