This is the first stable release of Quantik, a Molecule 3D Viewer built in Rust with no 3D engine :D (and with minifb) ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧

Highlights

• Runs natively on macOS (Intel + Apple Silicon) and Windows
• Open any .sdf file, or load one of the built-in example molecules
• Fully software-rendered: no GPU, no 3D engine, everything is rasterized on the CPU

Viewer

• Atoms drawn as spheres and bonds as cylinders (double and triple bonds are shown as parallel cylinders)
• CPK colors and van der Waals radii for each element
• Orbit camera: rotate, pan and zoom with the mouse or the keyboard
• Auto rotate with adjustable speed
• Hover an atom to see its name, symbol, index, radius and molar mass
• Info panel with the name, formula, number of atoms, number of bonds and total molar mass

Software Renderer

• Depth buffer, back-face culling and key + fill lighting
• SSAA anti-aliasing: low quality while moving the camera, 3x when you stop
• Redraw on demand: the scene is only re-rendered when something changed
• Atom ID buffer for hover picking

Molecule Loading

• .sdf / .txt files through a native file dialog
• Built-in examples: Water, Methane, Ammonia, Benzene and Ethanol
• Auto framing: the molecule is centered and the camera distance is set from its size
• Known PubChem CIDs are shown by name (Water, Caffeine, Cocaine, Vitamin C...)

⚠️ macOS Users ⚠️

Because this app is distributed without an Apple Developer signature (because I don't have enough money 🥲), macOS will show a "Quantik is damaged and can't be opened" error.

To fix this after dragging it to your Applications folder, run this command in your Terminal:

xattr -cr /Applications/Quantik.app

⚠️ Windows Users ⚠️

Windows Defender don't like my app too 😭, so if Windows Defender won't let you download my file try deactivate it when you use it and turn it back on after
