ROS2 MCP 2610

ROS2 MCP (formerly "MCP Server for ROS 2") is now fully open source under MPL-2.0, every tool included.

Highlights

  • Former Pro tools are now free under MPL-2.0, built in, no licence key:
    ros2_subscribe_multiple_topics, ros2_publish_multiple_topics, ros2_get_map_as_image, ros2_get_pointcloud_as_bev.
  • Read-only mode: ROS2_MCP_READONLY=1 or --read-only. The tools that change robot state
    (ros2_topic_publish, ros2_publish_multiple_topics, ros2_service_call, ros2_send_action_goal, ros2_cancel_action_goal)
are not registered at all: they are absent from list_tools, and calling one is an unknown-tool error.
Every tool is classified in server/tool_safety.py; a test fails when a new tool is not classified.
  • Renamed to ROS2 MCP (README, package description, MCP serverInfo name, Docker labels, server.json title).
The repo slug ros2_mcp, the mcp_ros_2_server entrypoint and the mcp/ros2 image name are unchanged.
  • Generated tool reference: docs/generated/tools.{json,md} is generated from the real tool registry by
scripts/gen_tool_docs.py, with a CI drift gate (docs-gen) and a provenance stamp. It feeds https://wisevision.tech/docs.
  • CI tests on both ROS 2 Humble and Jazzy.

Docker

docker run -i --rm wisevision/ros2_mcp:jazzy (or :humble). Read-only: add -e ROS2_MCP_READONLY=1.

Merged

  • #63 Pro tools merged into MPL-2.0, rename, read-only mode, Humble + Jazzy CI
  • #62 Tool-docs generator + drift gate + provenance
  • #64 Changelog date
