Kelvin 0.9.2: skies and firelit faces come through, a look carries your finishing touches, and Fix always answers

New

  • Select an object by clicking it. The new Object mask sits next to the Wand in the mask panel. Click the dog and it selects the whole dog. ⌥-click takes away a piece you didn't want. The Wand was a colour fill that could leak off one rock onto the next; Object uses Apple's object selection on macOS 27. Export rebuilds the selection from your clicks, so the file matches the screen. On older macOS the button is there but says it needs macOS 27.
  • Apply to shoot carries your whole choice. A creative look on top of the style goes with it: Soft + Portrait film, not just Soft. So do your own finishing touches. If you made the photo a touch brighter or warmer, every frame gets the same visible change made with its own settings, not a copy of your sliders, which would overexpose a frame that was already bright. You can switch this off with With my adjustments beside Apply.
  • See a look on the rest of the shoot before applying it. On a shoot of more than eight photos, Apply first shows the look on the four frames least like the one you chose it on: the darkest, the brightest, the ones in odd light. It says why each was picked, and warns you if the look doesn't suit a frame. Cancel changes nothing, and you can switch the check off.
  • Each look says where it acts: "More contrast, deeper blacks, with a deeper sky", "True to the scene, with the person brighter".
  • Photos from an iPhone use the iPhone's own sky and person masks where the file carries them, instead of detecting them.

Fixed

  • Firelit faces no longer go flat red. A flame in the frame used to switch off the rule that stops Kelvin brightening a night scene, so faces lit by the fire clipped in the red channel. Kelvin now limits brightening by the brightest colour channel, not just overall brightness.
  • Bright skies over a dark foreground no longer blow out. Kelvin brightens a dark foreground, and that used to push the sky with it. It now measures the sky after the edit and holds it down through the sky mask, so the foreground keeps its lift. On a tulip-field photo, the share of the frame blown out went from 14% to 4%. The Soft look on an overcast beach went from 32% to 3%.
  • Blue lake skies no longer turn flat cyan, and a lavender field is no longer "corrected" into acid-yellow stems.
  • No more sky masks in living rooms. Where your Mac has Apple's on-device model, Kelvin asks it whether a photo is indoors and whether any sky is visible, and a sky it doesn't see gets no sky edit. The model only answers questions. Every number still comes from measuring your photo.
  • Fix always does something or says why. On a bright sky, Fix now brings the sky down through its mask rather than darkening the whole photo. It no longer offers to "correct" the warmth out of firelight or a sunset. Where it can't help, the status line says so.
  • A skin tone no longer changes the exposure of the whole photo, and the Warm and Cool looks now shift warmth by the same visible amount on every photo.

Changed

  • The engine version is now 0.7.6. Edits you already saved keep their values; pick a look again on a photo to get the new behaviour. Scene reads are refreshed once where Apple's on-device model is available.
