macOS becomes a real platform. SetMaster now ships as a signed, notarized SetMaster.app
inside a drag-to-Applications disk image — no terminal, no right-click-to-open, no
Privacy & Security detour. The clean-install acceptance test passed against this release's own
notarized artifact, on the first double-click.

Read before installing on macOS. The .dmg requires Apple silicon and macOS 14 (Sonoma)
or later
(#229). Intel Macs are not supported. Every Apple silicon Mac can run Sonoma, so the
free OS update is all that is needed. Windows is unchanged and remains verified end to end.

  • Signed, notarized macOS .app in a .dmg, with a Cocoa launcher that owns the backend's
    lifetime — right-click the Dock icon → Quit shuts the backend down (#214).
  • App icon generated from the RML mark (#214).
  • Public mirror generator — this repository is built as a fresh orphan commit per release,
    behind an allowlist plus a fail-closed leak scan (#205, #226).

Changed

  • The macOS minimum is now 14.0 (Sonoma), up from 11.0 (#229).
  • Documentation states plainly that Traktor® is optional — set preparation stands alone and
    works with no collection loaded (#208, #212).

Fixed

  • Release artifacts no longer ship the build machine's absolute paths (#223). A .pyc records
    the absolute path of the source it was compiled from, and that path appears in every traceback
    a user sees; 2,945 files in the 3.0.3 macOS payload named the builder's home directory.
  • The app no longer claims to run on macOS versions it cannot (#229).
  • The macOS deployment-target gate no longer misses FAT64 binaries or passes ones it cannot
    parse (#240).
  • Artifact leak scans can now see build paths stored as UTF-16 (#241). No shipped artifact was
    affected.
  • The macOS release build can be notarized without a terminal watching it (#247).
  • The public mirror can be generated again — twice over (#239, #251).
  • The published setup instructions now install the test runner they tell you to run (#265).
  • The macOS double-click launch contract is exercised on real hardware (#182).

Known limitations

  • Force Quit orphans the macOS backend, and a later Quit will not stop it (#233). Right-click
    the Dock icon → Quit is the supported way to stop it.
  • The .tar.gz payload remains unsigned and declares no OS minimum; the .dmg is the
    better-behaved artifact.

First public release of SetMaster 3.

Install

Download the archive for your platform, unpack it anywhere, and double-click the launcher. No Python, no Node, no terminal — each payload bundles its own CPython runtime.

Start/stop instructions are in READ ME FIRST.txt inside the archive. Every build also ships an isolated test instance with its own data directory and port, so you can experiment without touching your real sets.

macOS artifacts are built on macOS (the bundled CPython is an OS-specific build and the .command executable bit can't be set from Windows). They'll be added to this release once built.

What it does

  • Set preparation — a structured editor for writing out a set as transition rows: track order, hot cues, EQ and level moves, timing, mix notes.
  • Catalog analysis — cross-references your Traktor® collection against Spotify® playlists exported as CSV, to find what you own but haven't organized and what's on your playlists but not in your library, plus compound filtering and sorting across the whole collection.

Fully offline: a local backend and a browser UI on localhost. No cloud, no accounts, no telemetry. Your collection.nml is opened strictly read-only and never modified.

Not affiliated with Native Instruments or Spotify.

Verification

This artifact passed the repo's full acceptance check: backend suite (183 passed, 2 skipped), frontend build and unit tests, and the packaged-artifact smoke check — boots on the bundled runtime, serves the UI, idempotent relaunch, clean stop, and leaves an unrelated port owner untouched.

RML SetMaster v2.68

Initial public release of RML SetMaster, a DJ set preparation and playlist analysis tool built for working with Spotify exports, Traktor playlists, and offline set-building workflows.

SetMaster is designed for DJs who want a more organized way to prepare performance sets, compare Spotify discovery playlists against their Traktor library, and analyze playlist/catalog data without constantly searching, sorting, and manually scanning their collection.

What’s included

Set Preparation Assistant

SetMaster includes an Excel-based set preparation workflow for planning DJ transitions line by line.

Each row can be treated as a Transition Event, showing how one track moves into the next:

  • Out Track and In Track
  • Transition cue number
  • Mix-in cue number
  • Pitch delta
  • Low-frequency handling
  • Gain/level notes
  • Low-swap cue
  • Mix notes, FX reminders, stem notes, and performance comments
  • “I like” and emoji-style labels for marking performance-ready selections

This makes it easier to think about a DJ set as a sequence of intentional transition decisions instead of just a list of tracks.

Playlist and Set Templates

The Launchpad includes tools to:

  • Create a new set from a template
  • Open an existing set
  • Navigate back to the Launchpad
  • Access FAQ and example playlist pages

Spotify vs. Traktor Playlist Comparison

SetMaster can compare exported Spotify playlists against playlists in your Traktor collection.

The workflow is:

  1. Export Spotify playlists using Exportify.
  2. Move the exported CSV files into the SetMaster folder.
  3. Point SetMaster to your Traktor collection file.
  4. Choose which playlists to compare.
  5. Run the comparison.

The output highlights playlist gaps between Spotify and Traktor, including:

  • Tracks found on both playlists
  • Tracks you do not appear to own in Traktor
  • Tracks you own but have not added to the matching Traktor playlist
  • Tracks that are in Traktor but not in the Spotify playlist

Traktor Collection Import

SetMaster reads the Traktor collection file and imports tracks that appear on Traktor playlists.

For this release, tracks must be on at least one playlist to be imported into the SetMaster tables. Tracks that exist only in the broader Traktor collection but are not on any playlist are not imported yet.

SetMaster does not write to or modify the Traktor collection file.

Track-Playlist Matrix

The Track-Playlist Matrix gives you a sortable and filterable view of tracks across playlists.

You can use it to:

  • Search for tracks in a specific playlist
  • Filter by BPM range
  • Filter or sort by musical key
  • Find tracks from a specific artist
  • Sort by release date
  • Find forgotten tracks you have rarely or never played
  • Build sets from large genre or energy-based source playlists

Super Playlist / Root Playlist Workflow

SetMaster supports the concept of Super Playlists, also called Root Playlists.

A Super Playlist is a large, broad playlist containing hundreds or thousands of tracks around a genre, mood, or energy level. These are useful as source pools for building smaller performance sets.

To use this workflow:

  1. Organize your Super Playlists into one folder in Traktor.
  2. Tell SetMaster which folder contains those playlists.
  3. SetMaster identifies tracks that are on Root/Super Playlists versus smaller Non-Root playlists.

This helps you find tracks that belong to a broad playlist you trust but have not yet been used in a live set or smaller performance playlist.

Offline-First Workflow

SetMaster was built in Excel so it can work offline while traveling, preparing sets, or DJing without internet access.

CSV exports and local collection data are stored inside the SetMaster folder, so the main preparation and analysis workflows do not require an active internet connection after setup.

Setup notes

  • Download the full release ZIP and move the folder to a local location of your choosing.
  • Cloning the repository is not required.
  • Set your Traktor collection path from the Launchpad.
  • Set your local SetMaster repo/folder path from the Launchpad.
  • Export Spotify playlists using Exportify and place the exported CSV files in the expected SetMaster folder.
  • Use “Choose Which Playlists Compare” to select playlists for comparison.
  • Use “Exclude Prefixes” to skip old playlists, friends’ playlists, or other playlists you do not want imported.

Safety notes

SetMaster is read-only with respect to Traktor.

It does not modify, overwrite, or write back to the Traktor collection file. It reads playlist and track information for analysis and preparation only.

Current limitations

  • Only tracks that appear on at least one Traktor playlist are imported.
  • Full-collection import is not included in this release.
  • Some timing columns are still a little awkward, especially where Out Track mix-in cue information relates to the line above.
  • Advanced filter logic is currently handled through spreadsheet filtering rather than a dedicated interactive interface.

Why this exists

SetMaster started as a real-world DJ workflow tool.

It was built to reduce tedious catalog management, playlist comparison, and manual eye-scanning so DJ preparation can stay focused on creativity, experimentation, and better performance decisions.
