Claude Integration
gqlcli ships with a ready-made skill definition for Claude Code. This lets Claude discover and drive the gqlcli binary automatically from your terminal.
The easiest way to install the skill is via the built-in command:\n
gqlcli install-skillThis command:
- Locates your home directory
- Creates
~/.claude/skills/gqlcli/if it does not exist - Writes
SKILL.mdinto that directory from the version embedded in thegqlclibinary
If the skill file already exists, install-skill is a no-op and prints a message indicating the existing location.
After running gqlcli install-skill, you should have:
~/.claude/skills/gqlcli/SKILL.md
Claude Code scans ~/.claude/skills/ for skills and uses the definitions to understand how to call tools from within your repo. The gqlcli skill teaches Claude:
- Where the
gqlclibinary lives (relative to the project) - How to invoke commands like
query, mutation, batch, types, describe, login, andconfig - How to work with
.gqlcli.jsonenvironments and common usage patterns
When you upgrade gqlcli, you can re-run:
gqlcli install-skillIf the file already exists, it will not be overwritten. To force a fresh copy, remove the old file and rerun the command:
rm -f ~/.claude/skills/gqlcli/SKILL.md
gqlcli install-skillFor a deeper look at the skill contents, see the SKILL.md embedded in the repo under pkg/skill/SKILL.md. That file is what install-skill copies into your ~/.claude/skills/gqlcli/ directory.
