Release Notes: v0.0.31 🍬
This release marks a significant milestone for the Candi Design System, featuring a massive expansion of the color token system, a complete overhaul of the automated testing suite, and key architectural refinements to our Single Source of Truth (SSOT).
🚀 Key Highlights
🎨 Massive Palette Expansion: Primitive Colors
We've introduced 10 new color families, each with 6 variants, adding 60 new tokens to the Candi system. This expands our total palette from 63 to 123 colors per mode.
- Families:
red,blue,green,yellow,magenta,cyan,teal,pink,gold,silver. - Variants:
base, subtle, soft, strong, outline, andon*(contrast). - Integration: These primitives are now natively supported across all platforms, including:
- VS Code: Bracket pair colorization using 6 distinct primitives.
- Vim: Rainbow brackets support and 30 new
Candi*highlight groups. - KDE/Konsole: New
[Colors:Candi]and[Candi]sections in color schemes. - GNOME/Obsidian: Native CSS variables (
--candi-*) and GTK@define-colormappings.
🏗️ Architectural Clarification (SSOT)
To better support our multi-platform ecosystem, we've formalized the Single Source of Truth architecture:
- Derivation Engine: Programmatic generation of the core palette using OKLCH math (ensuring perceptual uniformity).
- Palette Assembly: The logic that maps derived colors into platform-specific artifacts (VS Code JSON, Vim scripts, Flutter classes, etc.).
- Documentation updated across
README.md,ARCHITECTURE.md, andKnowledge.md.
🧪 Comprehensive Quality Assurance
This release introduces a robust automated testing suite to prevent regression across our complex build pipelines.
- 110+ New Assertions: Covered across 8 specialized test scripts.
- Key Tests:
test-color-conv.js: Validates OKLCH to Hex/RGB/ARGB conversions.test-sync.js: Ensures all platforms are using identical token values.test-lint-tokens.js: Enforces naming conventions and token integrity.test-package-artifacts.js: Verified the integrity of generated release files.
- Regression Guards: Added semantic guards to ensure future updates don't accidentally break established color relationships.
📱 Flutter & Web Enhancements
- Web Support: The Flutter Showcase application is now fully compatible with the web, including a streamlined build process.
- Improved DX: Added convenience aliases (e.g.,
muted→textMuted) and enhanced Material 3ColorSchemeintegration. - Version Sync: Synchronized versions across all Flutter-related packages for a seamless update experience.
🛠️ Developer Experience (DX)
- Local Theme Installer: Added a powerful
install-local.shscript (run vianpm run install:local). It automates the installation of themes for VS Code, Vim, GNOME, KDE, and Obsidian in one command. - Color Reference: New
COLOR_REFERENCE.mdprovides a complete mapping of tokens for extension developers. - Version Tracking: Global
published_versions.jsonimplemented to track component lifecycles independently.
📦 Component Updates
- GNOME: Updated GTK 3.0/4.0 CSS templates with primitive color definitions.
- Obsidian: Added 40+ lines of new CSS for better theme coverage.
- Vim: Expanded colorscheme logic to support intensive customization via the new
Candi*groups. - KDE: Added Konsole color scheme support for high-fidelity terminal aesthetics.
