Release list
Wymark 0.1.18
A list item that starts with a heading, a quote, a code block or a table is
no longer copied into the file on every edit in the Formatted view. Delete
and Backspace now agree at every block boundary, and the review names more
changes for what they are: a join, an unfenced code block, a removed
picture or divider, a picture's new alt text. Moved text keeps its colours,
and a tab dragged to the right of a lone pane opens a second one.
Highlights
- Fixed: a list item starting with a heading (
3. ### Title), a quote, a
code block or a table was copied into the file again on every edit in
the Formatted view, pulling the next block into the list. The Formatted
view looked clean throughout. Such an item is now written on its marker
line, as it was typed, and an edit near it is written once. - Fixed: Backspace right after typing
[^label]:or[label]:put the
caret in the next block, so the next Backspace joined that block onto the
label. - Delete at the end of a block and Backspace at the start of the next one
now do the same thing. A rule, a picture or an HTML block is selected by
the first press and removed by the second. Delete at the end of a bullet
joins the next bullet's text onto the line, and at the start of a list
item it deletes the character ahead. - The review names more changes: a join beside another pending change stays
"Merged", every one-press bullet join is "Merged", a code block whose fence
was removed is one "Unfenced" card, a removed picture or divider is a
note, a picture's changed alt text has its own card, and a removed
footnote reads "Footnote removed". - Moved text keeps the colours it had, whether moved with Opt+Arrow or cut
and pasted back. - A text that leaves and comes back (
git stashandgit stash pop, as
git town syncdoes) keeps its colours instead of turning all incoming. - A tab dragged to the right third of the only pane opens a second pane
beside it. - The default text column is wider (46rem, about 92 characters).
- A markdown picture is sized from its width, like an
<img>tag, so a
wide picture is no longer cropped at the sides. - A wheel over the margin beside a zoomed text scrolls the document.
- Fixed: a page that sat frozen while the Mac slept could reload itself and
offer a crash report on wake. Nothing had crashed. - Fixed: the AI sidecar file could be unparseable when the document held a
heading joined onto a paragraph. - Fixed: making a word bold right after resolving a comment could scroll the
document, so the line you were on slid up under the toolbar.
Wymark 0.1.17
Quotes and brackets pair only where the text around them allows it, and the
single quote pairs too, in both editors. A zoomed pane remembers the width of
the text and where it stands, so a larger window no longer lengthens the
lines. A
window left hidden for a while no longer comes back as a reloaded page with a
crash report.
Highlights
- Typing
"or a bracket pairs only where its neighbours allow it: a
bracket when what follows is whitespace, a closer or the end of the text,
a quote when neither neighbour is a letter or digit. Quoting an existing
word no longer leaves a stray pair on each side of it. - The single quote
'pairs and wraps a selection like the other openers,
in the Formatted and the Source view. An apostrophe inside a word
(don't,it's,dogs') is still one character. - A zoomed pane (the zoom button, Shift-Cmd-Return) remembers the text's
width and its place between the window's edges. A larger window widens the comments column and never the text; a
centred text stays centred. - In a zoomed pane each divider moves its own edge and the other stands still. A
double-click on the left divider centres the text at the width it has. - Fixed: a window that had been hidden for a while (a sleeping display,
another Space) could come back as a reloaded page offering a crash
report. Nothing had crashed. - Fixed: the crash dialog printed a piece of its own template where the
fault belonged. - Fixed: removing bold or italic from a run left the run uncoloured in the
Formatted view, while the card named the change. - Fixed: while a comment was being written, its row on the status chip
alternated between the count and "comment n/m". - The left panel's hints (Files, Recents, Search, Outline and the folder
header's actions) are drawn as the app's own tooltip, not the system's.
Wymark 0.1.16
The Formatted view now draws the HTML that GitHub draws in a README: keys,
subscript and superscript, highlights, figures, aligned blocks and details.
HTML it does not draw is shown as source in a monospaced face, and a block of
it folds. The drawing editor follows excalidraw.com. A document in a
cloud-storage folder can hold images and drawings. An open app checks for an
update every six hours.
Highlights
- A matched pair of
<kbd>,,,<mark>,<ins>or
<small>is drawn as the element it names. The two tags show when the
caret arrives, as bold and italic delimiters do. - A
<figure>of pictures with a plain-text caption is drawn as its
pictures and its caption. <div align>and<p align>align what is between their tags,
<details>is a summary row with its content under it (always open), and
a<picture>whose sources are chosen by colour scheme follows the app's
theme.- HTML that is not drawn is shown as its source in a monospaced face. A
block of it sits on a panel with anHTMLlabel; clicking the label
folds the block to its first line. Nothing is written to the file. - None of this changes the file: the tags are stored, counted and saved
exactly as before. - The drawing editor is the build excalidraw.com runs, not the older
stable release, so its tools match the hosted app. - Pasting an image or inserting a drawing works in a document under
~/Library/CloudStorage, which includes Desktop and Documents when
OneDrive folder backup is on. It was refused before. - An open app checks for an update every six hours, where it checked once
a day. The check at launch is unchanged. - Fixed: an arrow key onto a hidden tag or comment left the caret
apparently still, and the next letter replaced the tag or the comment. - Fixed: switching back to the Formatted view could land at the top of
the document. - Fixed: with the View zoom above 100%, a split pane could not be dragged
down to its minimum width. - Fixed: Forget on the missing-file prompt left the document's tab
standing, and closing that tab crashed the view. - Fixed: the AI sidecar's HTML comment could raise a conflict card when
two Wymark apps had the same file open.
Wymark 0.1.15
The AI sidecar is now a switch on each document, and while it is on the
document carries a line at its top that tells a tool where the sidecar is. A
file written from outside Wymark is taken exactly as it was written: Wymark no
longer writes a merge of its own back over it, and where the write undid
something of yours a card offers to put it back. Wymark checks for an update
at every launch. The welcome document describes both changes, so this update
replaces your copy of it again.
Highlights
- The sparkles button in the toolbar turns the AI sidecar on for the
document you are in, and opens the sidecar file in a tab beside it. It is
off until you turn it on. - While the switch is on, the document carries one HTML comment at the top
that names the sidecar file. Both views show it above the text; it is
never part of your review, your versions or an export. - Settings > Review & comments has two new controls: whether enabling the
sidecar adds the HTML comment, and the comment's text. - A write from outside Wymark that removes words you added, brings back
text you deleted, or removes a reply gets a card at the place, with
Put backorDelete again, andKeep. - The text from before such a write is kept in the Versions panel under
Overwritten for thirty days, and⌘Ztakes the write back as one
step. - Typing that never pauses reaches the file within about a second, where a
busy document could go minutes without a write. - Fixed in the Formatted view: bold typed against an existing bold run
joins it; toggling bold off after a space leaves no asterisks; deleting
a heading with its section leaves no hashes; a drag or⇧-arrow
selection crosses a code block; splitting a paragraph and joining it
again keeps the space. - Fixed: a space typed just as an outside write landed could be lost, and
a comment over a whole list item collapsed the item after it. - A toast counts its eight seconds only while the window has focus.
Wymark 0.1.14
Following a link to another document now opens it beside the one you are
reading, and a footnote's hover card takes you to the note. Changing where a
link or a picture points shows as one "Link changed" or "Image changed" card
on it. Two copies of Wymark editing the same document no longer duplicate
its content. The welcome document links the docs page for each feature, so
this update replaces your copy of it again.
Highlights
⌘-click on a link to another document opens it in a second pane beside
the one you are reading, making that pane if there is none.- The footnote hover card can be reached with the pointer, and its arrow
jumps to the note.⌘-click or⌥-click on a reference jumps there too. - A link pointed somewhere else, with its text unchanged, shows as one "Link
changed" card beside it, with the old target struck. A picture pointed at
another file shows as "Image changed" on the picture. - An added code block is tinted as new in the Formatted view, and walking
onto it no longer makes it blink. - Fixed: the same document open in two copies of Wymark at once could
multiply a list item and keep adding empty ones until one copy was quit. - The welcome document links the docs page for each feature it describes.
The update replaces your copy of it, along with anything you wrote in it.
Wymark 0.1.13
Zoom gets two writing modes: Focus dims everything but the block you are
in, and Typewriter keeps your line at one height while the page moves under
it. When another program writes into a document you have open, Wymark now
merges the change in place instead of keeping two copies of a paragraph or a
list. The welcome document is rewritten, and from now on an update that
changes it replaces your copy.
Highlights
- Focus (
F8or⌘D) and Typewriter (F9or⌘T) in zoom. Zoom also gets a
left divider, and its outline folds into a dropdown when space runs short. - An edit from another program to a document you have open merges where it
belongs. This holds when it replies to a comment, rewrites the commented
text, resolves the comment, or edits one item of a list. Before, some of
these kept both versions side by side. - A new welcome document. When an update changes it, the update replaces
your copy, along with anything you wrote in it, so keep notes in a document
of your own. - Accept or reject the change the status chip names, without going to its
card. - Long change cards are clamped and expand in place. Cards may grow wider, up
to 600px. - Deleting a whole section shows as one change per heading instead of dozens.
A run of added blank lines is one change again. - Fixed: Copy link could fail with a permission error everywhere in the app.
- Fixed: formatting bar icons could disappear until a restart.
- Fixed: a nested outline of headings drifted apart in the Formatted view.
⌘,opens and closes Settings, and the footer hints use the app's tooltip.
Wymark 0.1.12
Reviewing changes in the Formatted view is calmer. Removed text is shown the
same way whoever removed it, change cards share one amber with the pin and
line that point at them, and the margin bar now marks only the changes you
cannot see in the text, such as a deletion or an edit inside a code block.
Switching from Formatted to Source with changes shown no longer makes the
page jump.
Highlights
- Removed text no longer takes the green or blue of whoever made the change.
In a change card it is ordinary text with a thin line through it, and text
that was already crossed out in the document shows its~~. - Every change card has an amber edge, the colour of its pin and leader line.
Replaced and Deleted cards title themselves in orange. A removed heading is
bold, and a removed list item, task or quote keeps its-,- [ ]or>. - The left-margin bar appears only for changes the text does not show: a
deletion, a move, a checkbox or math change, and an edit inside a code
block, where the bar now runs the full height of the block. Green and blue
text no longer gets a bar beside it. - Switching from Formatted to Source with changes shown draws the changes at
once and places the page once, instead of jumping a moment later. - Fixed: in the app, a mode switch with the middle of the screen above a
heading or on hidden formatting could jump by half a screen. - Fixed: a space between two removed words in a card was painted as an orange
block instead of being crossed out with them. - Security updates to the HTTP client used for crash reports, and to Phoenix
LiveView.
Wymark 0.1.11
You can now drag a file from Finder into Wymark: drop it on the editor to open
it, or onto the Files panel to copy it into the folder you drop it on. A
folder dropped on the Files panel opens it, or is copied in when a folder is
already open, with an Undo. Comparing a document against a git version no
longer locks the document up, and files that are not UTF-8 are refused with a
clear message instead of crashing the window.
Highlights
- Drop a Markdown file anywhere in the window to open it in a normal tab, in
the pane under the pointer. The file stays where it is. - Drop files onto the Files panel to copy them into the folder under the
pointer, or into the open folder's root. A copy never overwrites; it gets a
new name if one is taken, and the copy is revealed in the tree. - Drop a folder onto an empty Files panel to open it, or onto an open folder
to copy it in. Undo (Cmd-Z or the toast) moves the copy to the Trash. - Files Wymark cannot open, such as Word documents, are refused by name.
- Fixed: comparing against a git version could crash the view over and over,
so the document could not be opened again (0.1.9 and 0.1.10). - Fixed: whitespace changed inside a code block, such as re-indented YAML,
showed no change and could not be rejected. - Files that are not UTF-8 are refused with a message saying how to fix them.
A file rewritten in another encoding while open stops being saved, so the
other app's bytes are kept, and resumes when it is UTF-8 again.
Wymark 0.1.10
Showing and hiding comments is now one plain on/off button, and the source
view has its own switch for the comment markers written in the file. Changes
and comments in the formatted view are quieter and easier to tell apart, and
removed text in a change card is struck through in its colour. Typing while
another app writes to the file no longer loses or moves a keystroke, and a
tool that edits a copy of your file and renames it back no longer undoes what
you wrote in the meantime.
Highlights
- Comments: the three-way visibility control is one button that shows or
hides the comment cards (Shift-Cmd-C). In the source view, the comment
markers in the file can be shown or collapsed from the comment count at the
foot of the comments column, from the right-click menu, or with Shift-Cmd-M. - The source view has the same round Comment button under a selection as the
formatted view. - In the formatted view, a change is shown as coloured text with a thin
underline instead of a shaded background, and a commented passage is a
tint alone, including inside inline code. - A change card strikes removed text through in the colour of its change, so
green and blue always mean the same thing in the card as in the document. - Comments stay readable in dark mode, and the selected comment stands out
from one you are hovering. - Fixed: a keystroke typed at the moment another program saved the file could
be lost, moved, or rolled back. - Fixed: when a tool edited a copy of your file and renamed it back, text you
had written in the meantime could be reverted.
Wymark 0.1.9
Documents now read in your system's own typefaces, with headings sized and
weighted to stand out from the text, and Settings lets you choose a sans or a
serif for the text and for headings. The last character you typed is no longer
occasionally swallowed, and a comment on a few words in a table cell now marks
that cell instead of the whole table.
Highlights
- The document is set in your system's font (San Francisco on a Mac, Segoe UI
on Windows), with headings in the same face at a clearer size and weight.
Settings has two new rows under Theme: Document font (Sans or Serif) and
Headings (Same as text, Sans or Serif). The serif is your system's own too. - Fixed: the last character or space you typed could occasionally vanish
shortly after you typed it. - A comment inside one table cell marks just that cell, and opening it scrolls
to the cell rather than to the top of the table. A cell can hold several
comments. - Comments are easier to see in dark mode.
