Install
- VS Code — Marketplace
- Cursor, Windsurf, VSCodium, Antigravity and other forks — Open VSX
- Manually — download the VSIX below, then
code --install-extension open-reader-0.0.11.vsix
Changes since 0.0.10
- MIT licensed.
- Published to Open VSX, so forks can install it from their own registry instead of sideloading.
What Open Reader does
- Reads EPUB books and CBZ comics from your workspace, listed with chapters and per-book progress.
- Two reading surfaces — a Reader panel in the sidebar and full-width editor tabs — both styled prose, never your code font.
- Remembers reading progress per book and scroll position per chapter.
- Live typography settings: font, size, weight, line height, letter spacing, alignment, margins, indent, two-page columns, and five reading themes.
- Entirely local. No account, no upload, no telemetry.
The web version at open-reader-web.vercel.app reads more formats: EPUB, CBZ, Markdown, HTML and plain text.
