Why This Release Matters
We do not merely ship another update. Komandare 5.2 makes a single, stubborn argument: a full Linux developer environment on Windows should cost you nothing — not a VM's disk, not a WSL install, not a single trace left on your host. Every feature in this release is evidence for that claim.
The Case for kRun: The Environment Comes to You
For years, running an IDE on Windows meant choosing between a sandboxed toolchain and a polluted one. We reject that false choice. kRun performs the exact environment injection of a full shell boot — PATH, module variables, cache junctions — and then launches any third-party program inside it:
kRun code .
No arguments? It pops a native Windows Run dialog, launched by a zero-CRT PE built from public Source/kRun.c. The point is simple: your toolchain should follow your editor, not the other way around.
The Case for kmd: A Terminal That Understands You
We argue a launcher is not a window — it is the first impression of your environment. So kmd does not compromise: it prefers Windows Terminal (≥1.60), falls back to bundled ConEmu, and injects a WT pathTranslationStyle Fragment so dragged files arrive as /mnt/c/... without ever touching your settings.json. kCmd and kBash bring the same booted shell into PowerShell, WT, ConEmu, or CMD in place. The environment meets you wherever you already are.
The Case for Zero Footprint: Containment Is a Promise
Here is our strongest argument, and it is a technical one. npm, pnpm, pip, Playwright, Go, Gradle, and Ruby caches live inside Module/ — never under %APPDATA%, %LOCALAPPDATA%, or any profile directory. Delete the folder and the host is byte-for-byte as it was. z-cache-clean enforces this discipline at every boot, auditing cache sizes against Config/CacheClean.ini. This is not convenience; it is a guarantee.
The Case for kmod-setup v4.4.0: Modules That Self-Govern
We argue package management should be trustworthy by design. v4.4.0 defends that position with the registry.kp v2 schema, multi-mirror failover, root=yes layout packages that avoid Cygwin fork failures, -latest conflict detection, install/dependency hooks with rollback, offline-tolerant TTL caching, and .KmdCore protection against deleting system modules. Every package is sha256-verified. Trust is engineered in, not assumed.
The Case for Security: Nothing Leaks
We concede no compromise on secrets: Config/AIShell.ini — containing a live API key — is stripped from the shipped payload. Key material never ships, never leaks, never commits. A distribution that cannot make this claim is not ready for production.
Verdict
Komandare 5.2 is not a list of features; it is a proposition. A real Cygwin-kernel distro, complete dev toolchains, module-level isolation, and a launcher suite that removes every excuse to stay on a lesser setup — all in one portable folder:
- Installer:
Komandare-Setup-5.2.2026.0912.exe(full base runtime embedded; modules fetched post-install viakmod-setup install -r <name>from the GitHub release mirror) - Module packs: per-module
.kmp+registry.kpindex (version / size / sha256 / description)
We submit this release as evidence; the verdict is yours to run.

1. Overview · 版本概述
Komandare is a UserLand Linux distribution for Windows, built on the Cygwin
kernel. It delivers a complete Unix-like environment with zero host pollution —
every toolchain and its caches stay inside Module/, so your Windows system
remains clean.
Komandare 是一套运行于 Windows 之上的 UserLand Linux 发行版,基于 Cygwin
内核构建。所有工具链及其缓存均收口在 Module/ 内,对 Windows 主机零污染。
2. Highlights · 亮点
- NSIS installer with a mandatory Core section plus an optional (default-on)
PATH integration section; shortcuts launched with/NoWorkingDir. - First-run Welcome Guide (
kmd-welcome) — an interactive TUI triggered on
first boot, driven by theFirstRunkey inConfig/Kernel.ini. - Module manager (
kmod-setup) — install / update / remove modules with
SHA-256 verified remote downloads. - True
sudobacked by gsudo UAC elevation (no UAC bypass). - Portable, self-healing layout — symlinks are rebuilt dynamically on every
boot based on the current mount point; the tree stays runnable after moving.
3. What's New · 更新内容
3.1 Installer & First-Run (安装器与首启)
- Rewrote the NSIS template: Core becomes a mandatory non-deselectable section;
PATH integration is a separate, optional, default-enabled section. - Fixed the Uninstall-section PATH removal bug (
StrStroffset comparison). - Fixed
CreateShortcuticon-index error ($PROFILEmisused in the icon-index
slot) and switch to/NoWorkingDir. build-release.ps1now excludes all history/cache (bash_history,
python_history,.cache,__pycache__,.npm,.gocache, …) and
Config/KmpCache.- Preserves Cygwin text-symlink
+S(System) attributes: the script scans the
payload for System-flagged files and injects 2000+SetFileAttributes SYSTEM
instructions into the NSIS-Coresection. FirstRunswitched from a marker file to theConfig/Kernel.inikey.kInitrd.cmdtriggerskmd-welcomeon first boot and re-calls all
Init.dloaders afterwards so newly installed modules take effect in the
current session.- Removed the legacy minibase/livecd install path (
setup.cmd,setup.sh,
build-minibase.ps1). The only release path is now the NSIS installer.
3.2 Welcome Guide / 首启引导
wguiderenamed tokmd-welcomeunderkbin/.- Pure bash +
tputTUI (same style asneofetch), with arrow keys,
space / Enter /qinteraction. - Reuses
kmod-setup sync+install -r— zero new dependencies. - Installation page switched from
--gaugeto--progressbox, streaming the
realkmod-setupoutput (downloading / sha verify / installed / loader
executed). write_path_fragments()parses the actually registered modules from
Config/Init.d/*.cmdand emitsConfig/path-fragments.sh(sourced by
bash.bashrc), so modules take effect immediately.
3.3 Module Manager (kmod-setup) (模块管理)
install -r <name>syntax (flag before or after the module name).- Fixed remove: now deletes the whole module directory (read back from the
loader'skmod-meta) plus the loader, with path-injection guards. syncfixed:kdownloadconverts to a Windows path viacygpath -w,
migrated cache from.temptoConfig/KmpCache, and added-kto skip SSL
verification (SHA-256 checksum remains the safety net).- Fixed the 416 Resume conflict: on HTTP 416 delete the stale file and retry a
plain download. - Fixed a one-module-per-line plan layout bug (captured a real newline instead
of the stripped one). - Client-side fallback retries the basename path when the
kmp/-prefixed URL
returns 404.
3.4 sudo (UAC elevation / UAC 提权)
- Completely reworked to use
gsudofor UAC elevation. - Temporarily maps
/etc/passwdto root (SID preserved) before elevation and
restores it when the command finishes. - End-to-end verified:
sudo id→ uid=0,sudo whoami→ root, parameter-less
sudodrops into a root shell, nested-elevation protection (rejects when a
bakexists), and no leftover temp files.
3.5 Kernel / Core
kbin/veradded (symlink →version);versionauto-locates$KMD_ROOT
and reads the version fromConfig/Kernel.ini.- Fixed the
versioncommand being hijacked by theqemumodule: a
SystemAliases.inialias routesversion → sh /kbin/versionto bypass the
PATH conflict, and a CRLF-in-aliases bug was fixed. klinks.shnow builds absolute POSIX symlink targets
(/mnt/c/Komandare/Module,/mnt/c/Komandare/Config, …) so/kmod,/kconf
and/tmpresolve from the root mount and self-heal after a move.CYGWIN=winsymlinks:sysenforced on both tar-pack and tar-unpack so
text symlinks survive the tar→tar→NSIS chain losslessly.
4. Breaking Changes / 破坏性变更
- First-run marker moved from
Config\.kmd_first_runto
Config\Kernel.ini(FirstRun=yes). - Legacy minibase / livecd install path removed; only the NSIS installer
is supported. sudonow requiresgsudo(UAC elevation). The previous
password-file mapping that bypassed UAC was removed by design.
5. Fixed Issues / 修复问题
- NSIS: PATH removal on uninstall (
StrStroffset bug). - NSIS: shortcut icon-index /
$PROFILEmisuse →/NoWorkingDir. - NSIS: missing
un.StrStrpre-definition. kmod-setup removenot deleting the module directory.kmod-setup syncintermittent failures (curl rc=23 / rc=22 / 416 / SSL
cert hijack).versionhijacked by theqemumodule (PATH name collision).- Module install not taking effect in the current session until restart.
- Aliases with stray
\rfrom CRLF line endings. - Relatively-symlinked
/kmod,/kconf,/tmpbroken under the root mount. - Text-symlink
+Sattribute lost during packaging.
5. Installation / 安装
