New in v1.18.0-beta1
New features & improvements:
- Added support for ambient light sensors. Twinkle Tray can now automatically adjust brightness using a sensor built into your Windows device or a connected Yocto light sensor. Brightness ranges can be customized for each monitor. (Thanks @ThomasMonkman, #1125)
- Brightness controls should now appear much faster after opening Twinkle Tray or reconnecting a display. Additional monitor controls, such as contrast and volume, will continue loading in the background.
- Improved monitor matching when using multiple displays.
- Twinkle Tray will now retry temporary monitor communication errors instead of immediately giving up.
- Improved detection of the features supported by each monitor, including better handling of slow or unusual displays.
- Added a new safety system for monitors that do not respond well to detection. If monitor detection previously caused Twinkle Tray to stop unexpectedly, the app will automatically use a safer method the next time it starts. Normal detection can be retried from the Troubleshooting settings.
- Added support for Apple Studio Display XDR and newer 2026 Studio Display models. (Thanks @oskarn97 and @BLS-Muhammad-Essat, #1230 and #1254)
- Improved HDR detection, particularly on systems using Windows Auto Color Management.
- The Settings window now uses the real Windows 11 Mica background effect on supported systems.
- Improved flyout positioning when using multi-monitor taskbar customization tools such as Windhawk. (Thanks @snowtyler, #1200)
- Scrolling over a brightness slider now changes brightness by a consistent amount, regardless of the Windows mouse-wheel setting. (Thanks @George-P-1, #1260)
- Improved monitor detection and brightness restoration after waking from sleep, connecting or disconnecting displays, and other hardware changes.
Fixes & updates:
- Fixed startup events sometimes overwriting the monitor’s current brightness. (Thanks @aidev0x0, #1177)
- Fixed a timing issue that could prevent brightness sliders from appearing.
- Fixed hidden displays not being tracked correctly in the brightness panel.
- Fixed brightness controls not being detected for some built-in laptop displays.
- Improved live language updates in the brightness panel.
- Fixed several possible crashes and resource leaks related to monitor detection and Windows integration.
- Improved general app stability, security, and error handling.
- Updated several dependencies.
- Updated localizations.
- Fixed dozens of other small issues.
