Windows RDNA4 development build 2026-10-02

Choose a tag to compare

Native Windows 11 x64 development build for Radeon RX 9070 XT / gfx1201, with D3D12 + patched OptiScaler. Includes d4r, patched Windows ZLUDA, isolated TheRock HIP runtime, 11 K and 5 M native kernels, dependency licenses, patches and a snapshot of the exact committed d4r sources.

Source: a346d76b430eb11c1ec3215f9699b822d2533f06. ZLUDA: a1c506fc956cfc347c56c44311669700c0d500ac.

Validation on the target GPU:

  • All 16 Windows CTest gates pass, including HIP, gfx12 WMMA, CUDA/ZLUDA and D3D12/HIP interop.
  • K/4K queued-frame and pending Release/CreateFeature regressions pass; asynchronous RGB exactly matches fresh synchronous controls, with no NaN/Inf. Timestamp-enabled regression also passes.
  • Fixed asynchronous K completes 16,941 4K game frames and 203,292 native launches in Silent Hill 2, including feature recreation, without backend errors or nonfinite output. A separate GPU-boundary profiling run completes 9,384 frames without errors.
  • K/M standalone and 4K game coverage, arithmetic checks and dependency details are recorded in the included sources and repository documentation.

K performance remains under development. The local test with validated, locally generated output-store kernels reports approximately 62 FPS / 63% GPU, compared with 49–51 FPS / 53% before asynchronous interop. This is not a controlled FSR4 comparison. Asynchronous interop is opt-in (-AsyncInterop) and currently requires one D3D12 queue. M keeps the validated FP16-equivalent baseline; native FP8 has not demonstrated a full-network speedup. Preset L is not validated by this Windows package.

NVIDIA DLLs and NVIDIA-derived private output-store objects are excluded. Supply your own _nvngx.dll and nvngx_dlss.dll locally; the native manifest pins tested DLSS 310.9.1 by SHA256. Optional output-store kernels must be built and validated locally. No Wine, Proton or WSL is used by the Windows runtime.

Extract the ZIP, read its README, then run its windows-game.ps1 with your game and local DLL paths. The installer backs up replaced files and supports -Action restore. Use a D3D12 game without anti-cheat. Build/install instructions: Windows port, game package, measurements.

Archive SHA256: 5b9a47e9d0c9a042567c2096eb8eaafb0a28473614b656865d794a39f5165d8e. All 65 archive entries and the 274-entry source snapshot were verified against the manifest and source commit.

Windows RDNA3/RDNA4 quick test: issue #10 fixes

Choose a tag to compare

Windows quick-test update for issue countervolts#10. Experimental: only RX 9070 XT is physically validated here. Eleven RDNA3 / RDNA3.5 / RDNA4 targets are packaged separately and selected automatically; other cards still need real hardware testing.

Download d4r-windows-quick-test.zip. Sources are a separate optional download for developers.

  1. Close the game. If an older d4r test is installed, run its RESTORE-GAME.cmd first.
  2. Extract this ZIP to a new writable folder. Do not copy DLLs into the game manually.
  3. Run START-K.cmd. Select the actual D3D12 game EXE and your original NVIDIA _nvngx.dll 32.0.16.1714 and nvngx_dlss.dll 310.9.1. Keep Steam/Epic open if required. NVIDIA DLLs are not included.
  4. Select DLSS, or FSR/XeSS for OptiScaler to intercept. Keep frame generation off. Allow initial shader compilation, play for 30 seconds, then exit normally. START-M.cmd tests M.
  5. Attach the single ZIP printed as SEND THIS ONE FILE to issue countervolts#10 and say GPU, game, K/M and whether the image is correct, black, corrupted or crashes. RESTORE-GAME.cmd reverses installation.

Changes:

  • Fix numeric CUDA NGX feature discovery: stage the local DLSS DLL beside the calling shim, and pass a directory in NvngxDlssPath. The old vendor-only layout reproduced BAD00004 / FeatureNotFound before any transformer launch.
  • Launch games without an attached debugger by default. The previous debugger launch was refused by Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced.
  • Handle empty stdout/stderr and report an early launcher exit with no DLSS frames as inconclusive, never as hardware validation. Steam restarts outside the launched process are not tracked.
  • Return AdapterUnsupported for nonmatching adapters during discovery while preserving strict architecture/LUID matching for runtime initialization.
  • Fix OptiScaler device-hook installation recursion/concurrency and propagate numeric external backend initialization errors.

Validation on RX 9070 XT: 20/20 CTest gates, six isolated installer/restore fixtures, nine summary-parser cases, expected negative feature-discovery controls, and three finite frames each for direct K / OptiScaler K / OptiScaler M with every required native layer. Direct/OptiScaler K RGB is bit-exact; zero NaN/Inf, CPU frame copies and frame age. All eleven targets build; all 187 packaged code objects are unchanged from the previous kernel baseline. Cyberpunk 2077 2.31 now reaches saved 4K gameplay on RX 9070 XT: K completes 13,145 session frames and M 5,268, with every required native transformer layer, finite GPU output checks on every frame and no previous-frame output, CPU image copies or backend failures. These counts include menus/loading. Both exit normally and the original installation is restored. The reporter's RX 9060 XT / gfx1200 still requires its own retest.

This is a synchronous correctness diagnostic, not an FPS benchmark. No NVIDIA DLLs, private NVIDIA-derived kernels, cache, captured inputs or developer harness binaries are in the runtime ZIP. Exact patched GPL frontend/submodule sources and dependency patches are in d4r-windows-quick-test-sources.zip. SHA256 digests are in SHA256SUMS.txt.

Report: issue #10. Build/test details: Windows port notes.

Windows quick test: one ZIP, automatic GPU detection, K/M

Choose a tag to compare

Download only d4r-windows-quick-test.zip to test. One ZIP (~121 MB) detects your AMD GPU automatically. No HIP SDK installation, compiling or script editing is needed.

  1. Extract the entire ZIP to a writable folder, for example Desktop\d4r-test. Do not copy its files into your game manually.
  2. Close the game. Have your original NVIDIA _nvngx.dll 32.0.16.1714 and nvngx_dlss.dll 310.9.1 ready. They are not included; the runner checks both files. The _nvngx.dll inside this package is the d4r shim and cannot replace the original NVIDIA file.
  3. Double-click START-K.cmd. Choose the actual D3D12 game executable and the two NVIDIA DLLs in the file dialogs. Your choices are remembered. On later runs, press Enter for the same game or C to choose another. Keep Steam/Epic open if your game needs it. Use a game without anti-cheat.
  4. In the game, select DLSS, or FSR/XeSS if DLSS is unavailable so OptiScaler can intercept it. Keep frame generation off. The first launch may compile shaders for several minutes. Keep the console open, play for 30 seconds, check the image, then exit the game normally.
  5. Send the single ZIP shown as SEND THIS ONE FILE (also in results/) and tell us GPU model / game / K or M / correct image, black screen, crash or visual corruption. Report in issue #10. Logs can contain local paths; review them before posting publicly.

To test DLSS 4.5 M: use START-M.cmd. START-K.cmd selects DLSS 4 K.

To uninstall: close the game and double-click RESTORE-GAME.cmd. It restores backed-up files and refuses to overwrite files changed after installation. Restore before switching to another game. Start every test through the included CMD, not the usual game shortcut.

Experimental: Windows 11 x64, native D3D12, RDNA3 / RDNA3.5 / RDNA4. Only RX 9070 XT has physical validation here; other GPUs may fail. The package contains all eleven compiled targets and selects the actual HIP architecture. A failure still produces one diagnostic ZIP. Use the game's native D3D12 files; vkd3d/Wine proxies are rejected.

This is a correctness diagnostic, not an FPS benchmark: synchronous interop, output checks and crash capture are enabled. No performance improvement is claimed. The runtime binaries are the previously validated c959acc build; the simplified launcher/packaging is 86037a1. Isolated Windows PowerShell 5 install/restore and four early-error checks pass; all 187 packaged code objects have the correct target and match their verified developer packages.

READ-ME-FIRST.txt contains the same short instructions. Sources, developer notes and source patches are not inside the runtime ZIP. Testers do not need d4r-windows-quick-test-sources.zip. That separate asset provides the committed port and exact patched GPL OptiScaler/submodule sources. Required license texts remain in licenses/. SHA256SUMS.txt covers both ZIPs. NVIDIA proprietary runtime DLLs and private NVIDIA-derived kernels are excluded.

Windows RDNA3/RDNA4 experimental builds 2026-10-02

Choose a tag to compare

Experimental native Windows builds for RDNA3, RDNA3.5 and RDNA4. Source: c959acc.

Only RX 9070 XT / gfx1201 has physical validation here. All other targets are compile-tested experiments; full K/M, interop and game correctness on them remain unverified.

Choose the asset for the GPU's actual HIP architecture:

Target Examples / scope
gfx1100 RX 7900 family; same-target workstation GPUs
gfx1101 RX 7700 / 7700 XT / 7800 XT; same-target GPUs
gfx1102 RX 7600 / 7600 XT; same-target GPUs
gfx1103 RDNA3 integrated graphics
gfx1150..gfx1154 Experimental RDNA3.5 integrated graphics targets
gfx1200 RX 9060 / 9060 XT
gfx1201 RX 9070 / 9070 XT / 9070 GRE

Windows driver/HIP eligibility still applies, especially on APUs. TBD RDNA4m/gfx12.5 ISA groups are excluded. Do not rename a package or override GPU architecture.

Changes:

  • Native gfx11 WMMA layout with a Windows per-wave LDS exchange adapted from realdody's correction; gfx12 kernel instructions/constants are preserved.
  • Shared build/runtime/package target registry and D3D12/HIP adapter LUID selection.
  • Read-only installer preflight catches the wrong package and local vkd3d/Wine D3D12 proxies before touching game files, producing one diagnostic ZIP. Issue countervolts#10's eight attempts discover RX 9060 XT/gfx1200 but fail with the old gfx1201-only shim before DLSS initialization; use the gfx1200 asset and native D3D12.
  • Source-level gfx1154 backport from official LLVM 7a0829e41228 into ZLUDA's pinned LLVM 22. The complete exported source delta is verified by the builder; base and patch hashes are included. The expected LLVM submodule patch is recorded in dependency provenance.

Validation:

  • Complete host/native builds for all 11 targets: 209 device objects with correct ELF targets.
  • 33 public offline PTX compilations: pattern, strict F16 reference and explicit WMMA modes. No other-target GPU execution.
  • RX 9070 XT with rebuilt ZLUDA: 20/20 CTest gates, 12 finite 4K K burst/recreation frames with exact async/sync RGB, plus exact prior/new-compiler RGB for K and M.
  • Isolated final-package install/restore and early-rejection checks pass. Each ZIP has 75 manifest files and 17 correctly targeted code objects, committed sources, source patches and licenses. SHA256SUMS.txt is included as a separate asset.

Packages use strict K FP16 and M FP16-equivalent baselines. Native M FP8 stays disabled. Private NVIDIA-derived output kernels used in local performance experiments are excluded; these archives do not claim that experiment's FPS.

Supply your own local NGX 32.0.16.1714 and DLSS 310.9.1 DLLs (the feature DLL SHA256 must match package.json). No proprietary NVIDIA DLLs are distributed. Windows 11 x64 / native D3D12 only. First PTX compilation can take several minutes.

Extract the matching ZIP, open PowerShell in its directory and run:

.\windows-game.ps1 -GameExe "D:\Games\Example\Game.exe" -NgxCore "C:\LocalDLLs\_nvngx.dll" -DlssDll "C:\LocalDLLs\nvngx_dlss.dll" -Preset 11 -ValidateOutput -CaptureExceptions

Use a game without anti-cheat. Begin synchronously on an untested GPU; retain the single printed ZIP on failure. Preset 13 selects M. On the validated configuration, async K is opt-in with -AsyncInterop. Restoration uses the same script with -Action restore -GameExe followed by the game path.

Instructions and limits: Windows GPU coverage and game runner. Source fixes are also on countervolts/d4r's windows branch. K performance remains under development.
