The redesign: a new look for the island, a Home panel, light and accent themes, and a lot of panel work.
Tip
Tomte is on the Microsoft Store, or winget install 9PG849MLVWZC. That version is signed and keeps itself up to date, so get it there unless you want this file. The two install as separate apps.
Warning
This build is not signed. It carries the same self-signed test certificate as 0.1.0 beta 1, so Windows refuses to install it until you trust that certificate yourself (step 2 below). If you already trusted it for the beta, skip that step.
Install
Needs Windows 11 22H2 or later, on x64.
- Download
Tomte_0.2.1.0_x64.msixandTomte-test-certificate.cerinto the same folder. - Trust the test certificate. Open PowerShell as administrator in that folder and run:
Windows will then install anything signed with this certificate. Its private key never leaves the developer's PC, but only do this if you trust this build, and remove the certificate again once signed builds are out.
Import-Certificate -FilePath .\Tomte-test-certificate.cer -CertStoreLocation Cert:\LocalMachine\TrustedPeople
- Double-click
Tomte_0.2.1.0_x64.msixand choose Install. The package name changed since the beta, so this installs beside it; uninstall the beta first.
Tomte starts hidden, with an icon in the notification area. Push the pointer against the top edge of the screen or press Win+Alt+I to open it.
What's new since 0.1.0 beta 1
- New look. A flatter island with a softer shadow, restyled pill states, an icon rail for the tabs and wider panels.
- Themes. Light, dark and accent schemes. The island can follow the taskbar's look and the Windows accent colour, set in Settings.
- Home panel as the first tab, with a scratchpad preview whose task boxes you can tick, and shelf files you can open or drag out.
- Desktop peek styles, picked from preview cards in Settings.
- Shelf: tile previews, a filter, pinned items that stay after a drag out, and two rows of tiles on a capped panel.
- Clipboard: a preview pane, pins, groups, a filter, and the app each item came from.
- Scratchpad: the note renders as a preview, with a switch to edit.
- Search: a redrawn box with a top hit, badges and key hints. Programs you opened before rank with the apps.
- AI: chips sit in the prompt, a redrawn answer view, a redrawn voice card (press E to edit the words), and saved keys show only their last four characters.
- Drop zones open by holding a drag on the pill.
- Settings is a dark window with grouped pages.
- Fixes: Circle to ask asks for screen capture access first, and launching Tomte again opens the running copy instead of starting another.
Remove
- Uninstall Tomte from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Remove the test certificate, in PowerShell as administrator:
Get-ChildItem Cert:\LocalMachine\TrustedPeople | Where-Object Subject -eq 'CN=Tomte Dev' | Remove-Item
- Uninstalling also deletes what Tomte kept: Windows stores an installed app's data with the app and removes it with it.
- API keys you entered stay in Windows Credential Manager. Remove the entries that start with
Tomte/ai/under Windows Credentials.
Good to know
- This build does not update itself. New builds will show up on this page.
- x64 only.
