@xditya xditya released this 23 Oct 02:30

Two fixes for voice typing and the Home mic.

Tip

Tomte is on the Microsoft Store, or winget install 9PG849MLVWZC. That version is signed and keeps itself up to date, so get it there unless you want this file. The two install as separate apps.

Warning

This build is not signed. It carries the same self-signed test certificate as earlier builds, so Windows refuses to install it until you trust that certificate yourself (step 2 below). If you already trusted it for an earlier build, skip that step.

Install

Needs Windows 11 22H2 or later, on x64.

  1. Download Tomte_0.2.2.0_x64.msix and Tomte-test-certificate.cer into the same folder.
  2. Trust the test certificate. Open PowerShell as administrator in that folder and run:
    Import-Certificate -FilePath .\Tomte-test-certificate.cer -CertStoreLocation Cert:\LocalMachine\TrustedPeople
Windows will then install anything signed with this certificate. Its private key never leaves the developer's PC, but only do this if you trust this build, and remove the certificate again once signed builds are out.
  3. Double-click Tomte_0.2.2.0_x64.msix and choose Install. It updates 0.2.1 in place.

Tomte starts hidden, with an icon in the notification area. Push the pointer against the top edge of the screen or press Win+Alt+I to open it.

What's new since 0.2.1

  • Voice typing inserts the right words everywhere. Pressing Insert after a take typed This ..... in Word and dropped letters in Notepad. Tomte now pastes the words instead of typing them key by key, then puts your clipboard back. The paste stays out of Windows clipboard history (Win+V) and Tomte's own clipboard history. Apps that don't paste with Ctrl+V still get the words typed.
  • The Home mic no longer closes right away. A quick click on the mic opened the voice card and ended the take at once. A click now starts listening and the next click stops it. Holding to talk works as before.

Remove

  • Uninstall Tomte from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  • Remove the test certificate, in PowerShell as administrator:
    Get-ChildItem Cert:\LocalMachine\TrustedPeople | Where-Object Subject -eq 'CN=Tomte Dev' | Remove-Item
  • Uninstalling also deletes what Tomte kept: Windows stores an installed app's data with the app and removes it with it.
  • API keys you entered stay in Windows Credential Manager. Remove the entries that start with Tomte/ai/ under Windows Credentials.

Good to know

  • This build does not update itself. New builds will show up on this page.
  • x64 only.
