Installed from the Microsoft Store: the Store updates the app; there's nothing to set in the app. New versions reach the Store after Microsoft review (sometimes a few days), so the Store can lag behind GitHub. The rest of this page is for the GitHub installer.

On first launch the app asks what to do when a new version is out. Until you choose, the app doesn't check online.

Mode	What the app does
Tell me about new versions (recommended)	Asks GitHub every 6 hours (6, 12 or 24 hours, your choice). When a new version is out, the status bar says so; you choose when to download and install.
Download and install when I close the app	Downloads in the background (postponed while Battery saver is on) and installs when you quit the app completely or the next time you open it.
Don't check	Never contacts GitHub. To update, go to Settings > Updates > Check for updates.

• Change the mode in Settings > Updates.
• The app never restarts by itself while you're using it.
• Downloads show a progress bar with the real percentage and a Cancel download button. Installing shows no window; the app reopens by itself after a few seconds.
• Update packages contain only what changed (usually a few hundred KB) and are verified with SHA-256 before installing. If a package is damaged, the app keeps the version you're running.
• If an update can't be installed, the status bar shows "Could not update to ..." the next time you open the app; select it to try again.
• Your data and sign-in are kept through every update.
