Midden 0.2.3 — Fix Linux “Both rendering capabilities” installation

Fixes the Linux wizard offering D2 and then aborting because apt has no D2 package.

• Linux x64/arm64 now install pinned D2 v0.9.0 from the upstream release,
  verified against SHA-256 digests in the shared installer manifest.
• D2 and license notices are installed beside Midden without sudo, tracked by
  its ownership receipt, retained on repeat installs, and removed by uninstall
  only when unchanged. Existing external D2 installations are reused.
• The preview shows the exact D2 download size; setup verifies the archive before
  running apt or writing installation files, then performs a real SVG render.
• Pandoc remains apt-managed on Linux. Its system package is preserved on uninstall.
• Release CI now installs both real renderers on a clean Ubuntu container,
  produces PPTX/HTML/SVG, and checks repeat, verify, uninstall, corrupted-checksum
  refusal and preservation of modified D2 files.

Run the one-liner from the website
after its version pin is promoted, or download this release's installer,
manifest.tsv, and SHA256SUMS and run bash ./install.sh --version v0.2.3.

The terminal wizard and script-owned installation remain unchanged in purpose.
Agentic CLI is recommended; standalone is experimental. Live agent acceptance
is separate from installer and renderer validation.

Midden 0.2.2 — Interactive terminal setup

Midden now opens a script-owned terminal wizard with a branded header, three
visible stages, and keyboard-selectable choices.

• Quick start uses sensible defaults; Custom setup offers project scope,
  binary/data directories, and PATH preferences interactively.
• Up/Down moves the selection, Enter confirms, and Q cancels.
• Choose a detected CLI or all hosts, then core recovery or optional Pandoc/D2
  capabilities. Review one complete install plan before changes.
• Numbered plain-text fallback for redirected or limited terminals; MIDDEN_PLAIN=1
  forces plain mode and NO_COLOR disables colour.
• Release CI exercises actual Unix PTY and Windows ConPTY keyboard input in
  addition to lifecycle, checksum, ownership, cancellation, and artifact checks.

Installation remains owned by PowerShell/Bash scripts. The Go application owns
recovery and content operations; no extra terminal UI runtime is installed.

Install

The website provides the one-line
entry points, promoted after this release is published. Install and authenticate
Copilot CLI, Claude Code, or OpenCode first.

For manual download, save the platform installer, manifest.tsv, and
SHA256SUMS from this release and follow the
installation guide.

Midden 0.2.1 — Guided CLI installation

The installer now detects your CLI hosts, selects a single detected host
automatically, and offers numbered choices when several are available. Choose
optional rendering capabilities and confirm one summary; custom locations remain
available through flags and environment variables.

• Windows PowerShell 5.1 and PowerShell 7 support; no separate shell installation
  required on Windows.
• Concise progress, retrying downloads, and actionable errors.
• Broken unselected optional tools no longer block core recovery installation.
• Refresh Windows PATH after package installation; support bash, zsh, and fish
  profile entries on Unix. Detect an existing command shadowing Midden.
• Reuse the previous installation's scope/state on repeat runs. Interactive
  upgrades explicitly show replacement with backups in the confirmation summary.
• Exact host launch commands and a first recovery prompt at completion.
• Ownership, checksums, rollback, modified-file refusal, and recovery-data
  preservation remain release gates.

Install

Save install.ps1 (Windows) or install.sh (Linux/macOS), manifest.tsv, and
SHA256SUMS together from this release. Verify checksums using the
installation guide.

Availability and validation

Headless and experimental standalone archives: Windows x64, Linux x64/arm64,
macOS x64/arm64. The recommended route is an installed, authenticated Copilot CLI,
Claude Code, or OpenCode host. Windows ARM64 is not supported by this release.

Native CI covers installer mechanics and packaged-binary smoke tests, including
Windows PowerShell 5.1. Live host acceptance and real package-manager operations
are separate from fixture tests. Standalone remains experimental. Optional
Pandoc/D2 tools are not bundled; generated content needs editorial review.

The standalone browser application remains experimental.

• Verified prebuilt headless downloads; Go is not required for installation.
• Ownership receipts, explicit upgrades/backups, verification, and uninstall that
  preserves recovered work and user files.
• Shared recovery skills and canonical guidance; the host owns models,
  authentication, and permissions.
• Retired the OpenMontage integration. Facet is a separately installed sister
  project for video creation.
• GitHub Actions gates publication on Go checks, native Windows/Linux/macOS
  installer tests, archive/checksum checks, and native artifact smoke tests.

Install

Install and authenticate your CLI host first. The installer verifies the
platform archive before installing. Keep the script/manifest for lifecycle use.
Use an explicit version because preview releases are not GitHub's latest.

Assets and limits

Headless and experimental standalone archives are available for Windows x64,
Linux x64/arm64, and macOS x64/arm64. build-manifest.json records the source
revision; SHA256SUMS covers all payload assets. Binaries are not OS code-signed.

Offline/native installer checks are separate from live host acceptance, which
remains in progress. Optional renderers and package-manager installation are
not bundled or certified by fixture tests. Review generated content and
provenance before publication. Standalone provider onboarding and complete
product validation remain incomplete.

Downloads and quick start

Choose the standalone archive for the web application. Extract and run midden ui (.\midden.exe ui in PowerShell). Open http://127.0.0.1:7777 and configure a model under Runtime & Models.

Choose headless for the CLI/module surface without the web application. Both forms include the executable, LICENSE, README and declared agent/skill content. Windows amd64, Linux amd64/arm64 and macOS amd64/arm64 archives are provided. Verify your archive against SHA256SUMS.

Pandoc is required for PPTX/HTML rendering and is not included. Source builds require Go 1.26.5 and access to the private xibodev Go dependencies. No session data, credentials or generated private examples are included.

Verification

• Full Go tests, go vet and headless CLI/module tests passed.
• Release binaries built from a clean checkout with no sibling replace directive.
• Browser acceptance exercised click-driven and kernel-driven production, five approval decisions, source review, export, streaming and Stop cancellation. Deterministic browser workflow tests use synthetic evidence/scripted models.
• Live model calls and real example content were exercised separately. An editable 8-slide PPTX was independently parsed, opened/rendered by LibreOffice Impress and visually inspected.
• Windows archives were extracted and their version/descriptor commands smoke-tested. Linux and macOS archives are cross-built; they have not all been runtime-tested on native hosts.

Preview limitations

This prerelease is not a declaration of completed product validation. Free endpoints may be unavailable, restricted or return low-quality drafts; successful generation does not replace editorial review. The standalone OpenAI-compatible provider flow is available, but other OAuth/native-provider onboarding and live capability-equivalence validation inside external CLI/Studio hosts remain incomplete. Some legacy CLI/UI paths remain during migration. PPTX source previews are not pixel-identical to PowerPoint. Release executables are unsigned; macOS assets are not notarized.
