bicdb is a single-machine, workspace-isolated transactional database designed for AI-agent workloads. It combines relational tables, agent data models, property graphs, full-text retrieval and managed external assets under one local database boundary.

Data and transaction model

The storage engine uses page heaps, in-place updates, Undo, WAL and crash recovery. Business history such as memory revisions is represented by ordinary rows or graph entities; the heap does not retain multiple application versions of each row.

Each connection owns its authentication state, transaction and snapshot. A service can keep multiple independent connections, while statements are currently serialized by one instance executor.

Workspace isolation

A user authenticates against the public identity catalog and is bound to a private workspace owned by that principal. A request cannot replace the authenticated identity or workspace. Ordinary users can read shared public content and cannot write it.

There is intentionally no cross-user GRANT, ownership transfer or cross-workspace write transaction. Local operating-system and file permissions remain part of the deployment boundary.

Interfaces

  • bicdb initializes and manages an instance and can execute SQL.
  • bicdbcli provides an interactive SQL*Plus-style client.
  • Rust and Python drivers use the local service protocol.
  • SQL includes management statements, relational DDL/DML, graph DDL, Cypher, graph property/full-text index administration and GRAPH_TABLE.

For runnable examples, continue to Getting started and Graph and full-text.
