This release groups adaptation sets by codec family in MPEG-DASH MPD files, enabling better external player support and improved stream selection.

Update to Release 2026.7.12

A recent yt-dlp update (yt-dlp/yt-dlp#16771) added support for additional adaptive video formats, including VP9 and AV1 codecs (previously, format selection was limited to H.264). As a result, downloads may now use formats other than H.264.

To control which formats are downloaded, review and update your format settings via the yt-dlp options. See Specify formats for guidance, or use a yt-dlp configuration file as usual.
