Bug Fixes

Windows Service Startup

  • Fixed appsettings.json not found error when running as a Windows service (C:\Windows\system32 working directory issue) — resolved by setting ContentRootPath = AppContext.BaseDirectory in WebApplicationOptions
  • Fixed TaskCanceledException in Kestrel on service startup — added "Urls": "http://localhost:5000" to prevent HTTPS binding which requires the ASP.NET dev certificate (not present on client machines)
  • Fixed startup race condition where synchronous SQL connection checks in ImsMigrator blocked the host startup thread, causing Kestrel to receive a cancelled token — resolved with await Task.Yield() at the start of ExecuteAsync

Deployment

  • Fixed InstallService.ps1 — removed undefined $currentPath variable from service binary path argument
  • Added Deployment/SQLPermissions script to grant NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM the required SQL Server permissions when running the service under the default LocalSystem account

Upgrade Instructions

  1. Stop the service
  2. Replace IndexMaintenanceSystem.exe with the new build
  3. Add "Urls": "http://localhost:5000" to appsettings.json if not already present
  4. Run Deployment/SQLPermissions script on the SQL Server instance (if using LocalSystem account)
  5. Start the service
