Knödel Watch 0.2.0

Seven new decks, a third way to draw a word, and Knödel comes along on Brezel's trips.

New

• Seven new decks, 84 cards: the pack now has 15 decks and 180 cards (the README lists them all).
  • Nouns: Meine Wohnung (at home), Beim Arzt (at the doctor's), In den Bergen (in the mountains)
  • A hiking trip to the Dolomites: Wir waren wandern! (verbs), Auf der Hütte (phrases at the mountain hut)
  • A sports double episode: Im Fitnessstudio (at the gym), Sport im Freien (outdoor sports), with some B1 words
• Nouns show the thing itself, on a disc in the colour of its gender, with a small movement of its own: a wardrobe door opens, a cow's bell rings, a cable car climbs. Some nouns are acted out by Brezel instead (Husten, Kissen, Rucksack).
• The part of a plural that changes is coloured: die Schränke, die Ärzte.
• Knödel comes along as Brezel's buddy: a small Knödel in 19 moods, from sleepy in bed to coach with a whistle.
• New colours: das is gold and separable prefixes are orange, so the three genders are easier to tell apart.

Fixed

• Some of the new cards could restart the watch (the drawing ran out of stack); the watch now has room to spare.

Install or update

The firmware and the content pack must be updated together: this firmware reads only the new pack, and the old firmware cannot read it.

• In the browser (Chrome or Edge): open the web installer, choose your watch and press Install. Keep the data when asked: your progress and settings stay.
• With esptool: download the image for your watch below and run python3 -m esptool --chip esp32s3 write-flash 0x0 <file>. This is a fresh install: it erases progress and settings.

Translations are in English and Chinese. Audio is synthetic speech (Microsoft Azure neural voices).

Knödel Watch 0.1.1

• An opening line: Knödel Watch now runs on a second board, and keeps the time you set.
• New: Waveshare board support, ported and maintained by @pockegar and tested on the web installer, with a link to the board notes; the installer asks which watch you have; the board layer and the porting guide.
• Fixed: the clock no longer resets to 1 January 2000.
• Install or update: installing from the browser (update without losing data) or with esptool, plus a table showing which file is for which board.
• A last line saying the content pack is unchanged.

Knödel Watch 0.1.0

The first release of Knödel Watch: animated vocabulary cards for the M5Stack StopWatch. This version teaches German (A2), with English and Chinese translations.

Install

Open the web installer in Chrome or Edge, connect the watch by USB-C and press Install. Nothing to set up.

What's in it

• 8 decks, 96 cards at A2: moods and emotions, body and health, personality, household chores, on the go, quick reactions, shopping, appointments
• Knödel and Brezel act out every word, with props, effects and thought bubbles
• Every German line spoken (synthetic voices); dialogues in two voices
• Practice with spaced repetition, and a little celebration for three right answers in a row
• Clock with a word of the day, and a focus timer that starts when you turn the watch face down
