@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Oct 07:55

Release candidate 1 for 0.6.0: version history, a playback meter, audition racks, Ears and shared agent rules. Everything from v0.5.1-rc.1, plus the changes below.

Install

Install Hibiki-0.6.0-rc.1.pkg (macOS) or Hibiki-0.6.0-rc.1-setup.exe (Windows) over v0.5.x, then restart REAPER so the new bridge, panel and meter load. hibiki doctor should show 0.6.0-rc.1. Installing a package switches the machine back to release mode.

New

  • Version history (Agent settings, left column):
    • After every agent reply that changed the project, a copy of it is kept in <project folder>/.hibiki/history/ (the project as it was, saved or not; about 40 KB each, no audio, the newest 200 kept).
    • Each version is titled with the reply's own first sentence, and the tooltip lists what changed.
    • The top row is Current, with Save version when it isn't in the history yet. Each version shows its time to the second and a Go to button, which saves Current as a version first and then makes the tab that version. Every move can be undone from the same list.
    • The bridge records what changed: every request that can change the project is one undo point labelled Hibiki <reply>: <what changed>, and a batch is one point. For run_lua and raw API calls it compares the project before and after (tracks, volume, pan, mute, FX added / removed / bypassed / offline, items, lanes, sends, tempo). A -- comment on the script's first line becomes its title.
  • Measure playback (Agent settings → Context): Hibiki_Meter.jsfx on the master's monitoring FX measures what you play. It never renders and doesn't touch the sound.
    • Measured values: LUFS-M/S (BS.1770), 4× true peak, correlation, side vs mid and eight bands.
    • The next message's context carries the last playback: gated LUFS-I, loudest LUFS-S and true peak with their bar.beat, correlation minimum, band levels and a per-bar row.
    • REAPER's menu bar shows "monitor FX" while it's on.
  • Audition rack for comparing audible alternatives: sounds, parts, arrangements, effects. Racks aren't meant for levels, because a few dB is hard to hear by switching.
    • An agent puts each variant on a lane of one track (REAPER 7 fixed lanes, tagged P_EXT:hibiki_lanes); tagged variant tracks or FX also work.
    • The panel shows Group [1][2][3] <playing variant> Keep N.
    • A click (or keys 1–9) switches without an undo point. When the transport is stopped, the click also loops the time selection, so a click is a listen.
    • Keep N deletes the other variants in one undo step.
  • Ears: with a time selection or razor area, Ears renders it from the master (up to 30 s), measures it and attaches the result to your next message as one chip (spectrum picture, summary, WAV). Removing the chip drops its numbers too.
    • REAPER supplies LUFS-I, LUFS-S max and true peak.
    • The new hibiki ears <wav> (stdlib only) adds 1/3-octave mid and side bands, tilt, the bands over and under it, stereo and level over time.
  • Agent rules: /remember <rule> saves a line to ~/.config/hibiki/brain/rules.md.
    • Before each chat with Codex, Claude Code, Kimi or Gemini, the gateway writes those rules, after a short block of panel conventions, into AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md and GEMINI.md in the agents' working folder. It is a marked block; your own text in those files stays.
    • Agent settings → Context → Agent rules shows the count and opens the file.

Changed

  • No drawn icons left: the header's buttons read Chats, New and Stop (Stop only while a reply runs), and the tool line has no >_ glyph.
  • Agent settings layout:
    • Left column: Provider and Version history.
    • Right column: Context (with Measure playback and Agent rules), then one Hibiki box with version, updates and Recover.
    • Every on/off is a REAPER checkbox. "Include dev builds" is now "Include release candidates".
  • Wording: one vocabulary throughout, sentence case, tooltips hold data only, and no ticking ages (recent chats show HH:MM or MM-DD).
  • Buttons and cards: composer buttons, rack numbers and pills share one height. Disabled buttons dim. Card buttons have a visible face. A permission with no options says Deny.
  • In dev mode, the panel's CLI calls (Recover, updates, Ears) go to the checkout, so an older installed hibiki no longer answers "exit 2".

Fixed

  • Text in Agent settings wraps inside its box (Recover's results ran out of it).
  • Ears could stay on "Ears…"; it now times out after 90 s and still attaches the audio.
  • A reply interrupted by switching chats kept its changes untitled.
  • Panel tests on a Windows host (UTF-8 reads, paths).

Known

  • Apple's DLSMusicDevice crashes playback when more than one instance runs in a project. Keep one, or set the others offline.
  • Signing and notarization of the installers are still to come.

Upgrading

Install over v0.5.x. If you were in dev mode, the installer switches you back to this release.

v0.5.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Oct 02:25

Hibiki 0.5.0: Windows, agents set up from the panel, a security and speed pass, and REAPER tools that check their own work. This is the first stable release since v0.4.1 and includes everything from rc.1–rc.4, plus the tool fixes below.

Install

  1. REAPER first: reaper.fm. Both installers refuse to continue without it.
  2. Hibiki:
    • macOS: Hibiki-0.5.0.pkg.
    • Windows (10 1803+, 64-bit): Hibiki-0.5.0-setup.exe. It installs per user and needs no admin rights.
    • Neither installer is signed yet. On macOS go to Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway. On Windows, at the SmartScreen prompt choose More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Restart REAPER. The panel opens docked on the right. Pick an agent in it, or click Install next to a CLI agent.

Only need the MCP for Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Cursor? Use sh install.sh --mcp-only from a clone.

Highlights since v0.4.1

  • Windows support:
    • A per-user installer that bundles Python.
    • One windowless supervisor runs the MCP service and the agent gateway, and starts them at logon.
    • The panel runs on Windows too.
    • (rc.1)
  • Connect an agent from the panel:
    • One-click installs at pinned versions: Claude Code, Codex, Kimi, MiniMax, Grok, Gemini and Copilot.
    • Download Gamut links to the Gamut app.
    • Enable REAPER for <agent> gives a Gamut agent access to REAPER.
    • (rc.2, rc.4)
  • Security and speed pass:
    • The macOS installer's root step no longer writes into your home folder.
    • The MCP service needs a bearer of at least 32 characters.
    • The gateway checks Origin, Host and the token before it reads the request body.
    • Supply chain: ACP adapters, cloudflared and CI actions are pinned to fixed versions.
    • The panel lays out streaming replies incrementally and skips messages that are off screen.
    • Bridge JSON is about 2× faster.
    • ACP agents that sit idle are stopped.
    • (rc.3)
  • hibiki recover and the panel's Recover button restart the MCP and the gateway without touching REAPER. (rc.3)
  • hibiki setup --mcp-only installs just the bridge and the stdio MCP. (rc.4)

New in 0.5.0: tools that check their own work

We audited 3,508 REAPER tool calls from real agent sessions. Agents fell back to run_lua 1,501 times to do things the tools should handle. This release fixes that without adding or removing any tool: the set is still 14, and every new parameter is optional.

  • render:
    • Brings media online first.
    • Refuses to write over an existing file, so REAPER's overwrite prompt can no longer block the bridge.
    • Refuses while any track is soloed and names those tracks. To solo or mute tracks for a single render, pass solo_indices or mute_indices; they are restored afterwards. allow_solo overrides the check.
    • Returns each file's path, size, length, peak and LUFS-I.
    • Warns when a file is silent or wasn't written, when the master is muted, and when stems come out as the master.
  • fx set formatted= sets a parameter by the value the plugin displays, for example -18, 4 (for 4:1) or 3.2k. It returns the value that was actually set.
  • send takes mode, src_channel and dst_channel (2 = channels 3/4) for kick sidechains.
  • envelope: unit=db writes in dB. Inactive envelopes are switched back on.
  • status reports any_solo, master_mute and dirty.
  • run_lua takes an optional timeout. Errors now show the failing source line and say not to resend.

Not yet

  • Signing and notarization of the macOS package and Windows installer. This needs an Apple Developer ID and a Windows code-signing certificate.
  • render stems=true can still produce the master instead of the stems. The result now flags it; until it's fixed, use solo_indices renders.
  • Gemini and Copilot logins have been tested at the ACP level, but not yet end to end with real accounts.

Upgrading

Install the new package over any 0.5.0 RC or over v0.4.1. If your bearer is shorter than 32 characters it is replaced on upgrade (see the rc.3 notes). Once the new package is installed, hibiki doctor should report bridge 0.5.0.

v0.4.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 22 Oct 06:14

First release of Hibiki (響, "resonance"): AI agents inside REAPER — an MCP server that drives REAPER, a chat
panel docked in REAPER, and a gateway for Gamut, Codex, Claude Code and Kimi. One .pkg installs it all.

Install

  1. REAPER first. Download it from reaper.fm, drag it to Applications and open
it once. The installer won't continue without it.
  2. Hibiki. Download Hibiki-0.4.1.pkg below and open it. It isn't signed yet: if macOS won't open it, go to
System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.
  3. Restart REAPER. The Hibiki panel opens docked on the right. Check everything with hibiki doctor.

What's in it

  • REAPER MCP server. 14 grouped tools (status, transport, track, midi, fx, send, item, envelope,
project, render, action, reaper_call, run_lua, batch) and the Lua bridge (0.4.1), started with REAPER
from a marked block in Scripts/__startup.lua.
  • Hibiki panel. A ReaImGui panel styled like REAPER's own track panel. The header shows the agent and model in
effect; clicking it opens Agent settings, a Routing-style window for provider (Gamut, Codex, Claude Code, Kimi),
Gamut agent, model / effort / mode and the context switch. For Claude Code and Kimi, Open in … reopens the chat
in the agent's own CLI in Terminal. ReaImGui 0.10.0.5 is installed if missing.
  • REAPER context. Every message carries the project, tempo, cursor with nearby markers, and each selection kind —
time selection, razor areas, tracks, items, MIDI notes, envelope, FX — with how long ago it was set, so the agent
can tell what you just touched from leftover selections. Time and razor ranges list their chord markers and what
plays there. Pills above the input show the same selections.
  • Agent gateway on 127.0.0.1:47892. hibiki agents add codex claude kimi adds those agents.
  • Bundled Python 3.12. No Xcode command line tools needed.
  • hibiki CLI. setup, doctor, connect, agents, watchdog, uninstall.
  • Client registration. The MCP gets registered in Gamut, Claude Desktop, Claude Code and Cursor when they're
    installed.

Upgrading from an earlier install

setup replaces the old LaunchAgents (com.yitian.*, and com.gamut-reaper-suite.* from before the rename) with
com.hibiki.*, swaps a hand-copied startup hook for the managed block, removes the old Scripts/GamutChat panel,
and keeps the existing bearer, so registered clients keep working. The panel carries its saved state (agent, chats,
model picks) over from its old name. The watchdog stays on if it was on. Close the old panel before upgrading.

Changed

  • python/ and lua/ are gone: the server, HTTP front and bridge live in reaper_mcp/; MCP configs point at
    reaper_mcp/server.py.
  • The HTTP front reads its bearer from ~/.config/reaper-mcp/token, so the plist no longer holds it.
  • gateway/install_macos.sh → hibiki agents add; scripts/install-watchdog.sh → hibiki watchdog on.
