Highlights

Adds the installed version in Settings, Check for Updates in Settings and the macOS app menu, quiet daily checks, beta/stable channels, release notes, verified downloads and Restart to update. Drafts are saved before restart; downloaded updates remain available after quitting. Chat stays usable offline.

Update packages are signed separately from Apple code signing and bind the signature to the announced version. macOS remains Developer ID signed and notarized. Windows remains unsigned. Linux AppImage updates install in the app; Debian installations use downloaded packages.

Users of beta.5 and earlier need to install this release manually once to enable future in-app updates.

Physical Windows and Linux desktop, LAN, and update-installation checks remain pending. See platform status.

Local Chat 0.1.0-beta.5

Adds labeled Reconnect buttons below the sidebar connection status and in the People nearby connection panel. It restarts local discovery and peer connections while keeping the conversation, draft, and reading position visible.

Fixes silent macOS Bonjour socket failures, chat updates stopping after a burst of events, and old connection cleanup removing a newly connected peer. Returning to the app refreshes saved state, and connection labels distinguish reconnecting from discovery.

If activating a network context fails, retries must complete activation before sharing resumes.

Local Chat 0.0.1

Highlights

The first public Local Chat release. Share text, links, and code in public rooms with nearby computers on the same local network, without accounts or a separately installed server.

Includes automatic discovery, encrypted peer connections, local history and search, room drafts, exact code copying, Light/Dark/System appearance, background notifications, Reconnect controls, and signed in-app update packages.

Adds the official website, getting started guide, privacy policy, terms, and latest stable downloads at https://local-chat.youssef.tn. Website and policy links are available in Settings and the native Help menu.

Earlier test releases used 0.1.0-beta versions. Install 0.0.1 manually and choose the Stable update channel. The version reset does not bypass updater downgrade protection. Saved conversations stay in the same app data folder.
