Metroid Dread — recompiled for PC, v0.4.0

Work in progress. If something breaks, use the new REPORT button on the Play screen (see below), or open a bug report and attach the logs.

On v0.3.x? Press UPDATE on the Play screen (a few MB). The game restarts by itself.

New

  • Report a problem (Play screen > Problems > REPORT): packs this game's logs and settings into one zip (no saves, no game files) and opens the bug report page with your version, graphics card, processor and memory already filled in. Drag the zip into the report.
  • The log of the previous run is kept as Metroid Dread.previous.log, so the log of a crash is still there after you start the game again to report it.
  • Crash logs name the file that crashed (for example a graphics driver), which makes crash reports much easier to track down.
  • Native Vulkan: with "Build all shaders before playing" on (the default), the game's shaders are now prepared in the background while the title screen plays, so they no longer have to be translated the first time each effect appears.

Fixed

  • Choosing Portuguese as the language broke the menus: text showed as internal names and button icons were missing. Metroid Dread has no Portuguese translation, so the game now runs in English when Portuguese is chosen, as it does on a Switch, and Portuguese is no longer offered in the Language list. A Portuguese translation may come later.
