Ring WebView - v1.6.0
This release adds Android support — the same main.ring now runs on desktop and Android via ring2apk — and removes JSON boilerplate: the C backend converts between JSON and Ring lists automatically.
Highlights
- Automatic JSON bridge (
301f3d8): bound Ring functions receivereqas a decoded Ring list instead of a raw JSON string, andwreturn()encodes lists/numbers itself. Nosimplejsonneeded on the data path. - Android backend (
2e9e453): the samewebview_*Ring C-API backed byandroid.webkit.WebViewover JNI (io.github.ysdragon.webview), with a worker-owned Ring VM, rotation re-attach, and renderer-kill recovery. - Nota example (
77f4a35): a notes app underexamples/android/— add/edit/pin/delete/search with file persistence — built with ring2apk, bridge driven by nativeonDomReady.
Breaking change
- Code written against 1.5.2 breaks at runtime: drop
json_decode(req)(usereqdirectly), dropjson_encode()aroundwreturn()arguments, and print lists withsee req(string + list is a runtime error). Booleans arrive as"__JSON_TRUE__"/"__JSON_FALSE__". - The install folder stays
webview— this release is numbered 1.6.0 so updates land in place. Users keep writingload "webview.ring".
New Features
- yyjson integration (
99d1470,469edba,33efaf1): yyjson submodule, CMake link, and JSON payload handling in bind and return. - Android build (
c0f77bf): mutually-exclusive CMake backend, plus thering2apkdependency (4f63cea). - Bridge docs (
cb9c492,9774a6b): bind/wreturnJSON handling clarified and aligned with the built-in flow.
Docs
- Android guide (
b70bedf): newdocs/ANDROID.mdstarter guide. - README (
16cc78b): Android platform support and setup instructions.
Package & Configuration
- Android files registered (
d42d5b2): backend, example, and docs added to thefileslist inpackage.ring. - Version 1.6.0 (
b4a770c): bump, with a1.5.2versions entry tracking thev1.5.2branch.
