New in this beta
- Bound High in color. Chalvo in pink, steel-blue blocks with sparkling gold and violet ones, every enemy in its own color, planets and asteroids over a violet starfield - across all four worlds and their bosses. The opening story plays in a theater with red curtains (the city at dusk and under attack, the sunny sky, the sunset), and the title, menus, Pocket and Cushion, world map, world intros, CLEAR!, bonus stages, passwords and Game Over are all colored. Bound High now starts in Auto. That makes 16 games with a pack built in.
It's a beta: if something looks off, or a game could use better colors, open an issue.
Emulation by Beetle VB; the Smooth look is OmniScale, from SameBoy. Thanks to VirtualBoyGo, where the inspiration started, and Red Viper, whose colors inspired our gradients. If VBoy Color put some color into your day, you can help paint the next game: github.com/sponsors/yuk27

Fixed in this beta
- Quest controllers on PC VR. After using
VBoyColor.exe, the controllers did nothing in games inVBoyColorVR.exe(the menu still worked), because both apps shared one settings file. The VR app now has its own, and the keyboard controls inVBoyColor.exeare back to normal too. - Mario Clash colors. The Koopa hitting Mario no longer has Mario's cap and skin colors, the small Mario and the letters on the TECHNICAL BONUS screen are colored, and Mario's grin on the THANKS FOR PLAYING screen is colored.

VBoy Color 1.0.0 beta 3
The third beta of VBoy Color: Virtual Boy games in color, on Quest and PC. Free and open source.
Downloads (under Assets below)
- Quest 2 / 3 / 3S / Pro: the
.apk- install it with SideQuest oradb install, then open VBoy Color from Unknown Sources. - Windows: the
windowszip - unzip it, put your ROMs inromsand runVBoyColor.exe(VBoyColorVR.exefor a PC headset). - Linux: the
linuxtarball - unpack it and run./VBoyColor(needs a Vulkan driver).

New in this beta
- Color packs for 7 more games: Vertical Force, Innsmouth no Yakata, Space Invaders Virtual Collection, Virtual Bowling, Golf (also T&E Virtual Golf), Red Alarm's menus and HUD, and 3-D Tetris's menus, HUD and characters. Panic Bomber and V-Tetris are now colored throughout, characters included. That makes 15 games with a pack built in.
- Every pack, gone over again: Wario Land's bosses, enemies and treasure room; Jack Bros.' story intro and monsters; Mario Clash checked across all 99 levels; every Mario's Tennis match screen; Galactic Pinball's tables repainted part by part; more of Teleroboxer.
- Screen looks. Settings → Screen → Look: Sharp, Smooth or LED - the Virtual Boy's own rows of light with a soft glow. Made for 3D: wherever both eyes see the same thing, they get the very same pixels. LED is the new default.
- Steadier depth colors. What a game draws without tiles (Red Alarm's world, 3-D Tetris's well) no longer streaks or flickers on flat areas in Auto.
- Hits still flash. A painted boss or enemy flashes when it's hit again, and you still blink while invulnerable.
- Library: box art is now the default (a title screen only for games without one), a filter to show only the games with a color pack, and on Quest an AR chip to turn the room around the screen on or off.
- Quest lasers: a quick trigger press clicks; holding it drags lists and the library.
- PC: the screen fits the window (or Whole pixels in Settings → Screen → Size), Esc opens the menu, and you can drop a TASVideos
.bk2on the window to watch a tool-assisted run.
Updating: installs over beta 2 (same signing key), and your saves live in your ROMs folder, so they stay. Two things work differently now: the screen look switches to LED once (Sharp is still in Settings → Screen → Look), and the left stick click no longer opens the menu on Quest - use the Menu button, or Select + Start on a gamepad.
It's a beta: if something looks off, or a game could use better colors, open an issue.

New in this beta
- A new menu. Your games as a library of cards, each showing its title screen in its own colors - made on your device the first time you open the menu, so nothing of any game ships with the app. Show them as a list (Y), last played first (X), or with box art from libretro's thumbnail collection (Settings → Download box art, off by default). A sidebar, settings in groups, and a new look everywhere.
- Point and click. The mouse on PC; on Quest, point either controller at the menu and pull the trigger. Sticks, D-pad and gamepads work as before.
- Depth colors. In Auto, what a game draws without tiles (Red Alarm's wireframe world, 3-D Tetris's well) is colored by how far away it is, from indigo far away to gold up close. Red Alarm now starts with them.
- More color. Scenery packs for Panic Bomber (also used by Tobidase! Panibon) and V-Tetris; Mario Clash's far Koopa shells green and its spiked enemies red; Mario's Tennis intro reworked.
- The curved screen option is gone - the screen is always flat.
Updating: installs over beta 1 (same signing key) - your saves live in your ROMs folder, so they stay. The Quest app now asks for internet access, used only for the optional box art.
It's a beta: if something looks off, or a game could use better colors, open an issue.
