What is new in v1.4.4

This release brings the current main reliability, capture workflow, and performance work into a developer-installable build.

Capture and library

  • Adds a compact completion preview for saved screenshots, MP4 recordings, and GIF recordings, with open, copy, recoverable Trash, and Undo actions.
  • Adds an explicit MP4/GIF recording output choice and preserves a valid MP4 when GIF finalization fails.
  • Fixes capture cancellation, Save As and clipboard error reporting, text annotation editing and wrapping, recording-region editing, focus restoration, and durable Trash mutations.
  • Improves library batch operations, thumbnail/media loading, and build performance while keeping captures local.

Settings and presentation

  • Adds a manual Check for Updates action that compares the installed version with Kiri's fixed GitHub Releases endpoint. It never downloads or installs an update automatically.
  • Refreshes the application with the existing monochrome visual language and corrects documentation to match current recording behavior.

Downloads

  • macOS Apple Silicon: kiri_1.4.4_aarch64.dmg
  • macOS Intel: kiri_1.4.4_x64.dmg
  • Windows x64: kiri_1.4.4_x64-setup.exe

The two macOS packages were built from this tag and use the same persistent, private-key-backed self-signed identity. This is a deliberate one-time identity migration from earlier ad-hoc releases, so macOS may ask you to approve Kiri's capture permissions again. The packages are not notarized; if Gatekeeper blocks the first launch, Control-click Kiri and choose Open, or use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. Do not disable Gatekeeper.

The Windows installer is not Authenticode-signed and Windows remains a preview without complete real-device acceptance testing.
