Zvim v0.0.11

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 15 Oct 16:29
v0.0.11
79525af

A focused Neovim frontend built with GPUI. This is an early development release.

Fixed in 0.0.11

  • Fixed macOS terminal input for Option-generated characters, including # from Option+3 on British keyboards. These characters now work when shells or terminal applications enable the Kitty keyboard protocol.
  • Added native regression coverage for key presses, held repeats and releases across legacy, Kitty and xterm modifyOtherKeys modes. Control and Command shortcuts remain intact.

Install

Requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 13 or newer. Quit all existing Zvim instances, download the macos-arm64 archive, and replace /Applications/Zvim.app. Reopen Zvim to use the new application host. Use Settings → General → Command-line launcher to install the optional CLI. Keep the chosen bin directory on your shell's PATH.

Bundled Neovim 0.12.5 loads your existing Neovim configuration. No separate Ghostty installation is required. SHA256SUMS.txt contains archive checksums.

Known limitations

The terminal remains experimental. Shell input IME composition and persisted sessions are not implemented; the search field uses native text-input composition. Split proportions are retained only while the window remains open. Linux requires Wayland for the terminal and remains experimental; this release ships a macOS Apple Silicon archive only. Native macOS search and window-menu behaviour have automated smoke coverage; Linux desktop runtime and full manual IME validation remain outstanding.

macOS applications are ad-hoc signed, not Developer ID signed or notarised. For local installation, remove quarantine with xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Zvim.app if needed. Managed work laptops may require IT approval.

  • Cmd+Shift+Up makes the terminal dock 40 logical pixels taller; Cmd+Shift+Down makes it 40 pixels shorter. Resizing respects the same minimum editor and terminal sizes as mouse dragging.
  • Resize shortcuts apply while a terminal is focused and the dock is visible alongside the editor. They do nothing while maximised.
  • Resize bindings are editable in Settings → Keybindings, with matching Terminal menu actions.

Install

Requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 13 or newer. Quit all existing Zvim instances, download the macos-arm64 archive, and replace /Applications/Zvim.app. Reopen Zvim to use the new application host. A focused Neovim frontend built with GPUI. This is an early development release.

New in 0.0.9

  • Terminal numbering now advances only when a shell is created. Split panes and dividers no longer cause skipped numbers; names remain stable when terminals close.
  • Cmd+[ and Cmd+] now cycle backwards and forwards through all terminal tabs across every split pane, in terminal-number order, wrapping at either end. Inactive tabs and vertically stacked panes are reachable. Cmd+Shift+[ / ] still cycles within the focused pane, and Cmd+1–9 still selects a tab within that pane.
  • Settings and Terminal menu labels now describe cycling across all panes.

New in 0.0.8

  • Ctrl+J now reaches Neovim instead of opening or focusing Ghostty. Ctrl+H/J/K/L retain your Neovim split-navigation mappings unless explicitly assigned in Zvim Settings. Cmd+Shift+, remains the default terminal-focus shortcut.
  • Added just run-clean for testing stock Neovim without custom configuration or plugins. It uses temporary Neovim config, data, cache and state directories, removes them when the test window closes, and accepts directory/file arguments.

Fixed in 0.0.7

  • Held letter keys now repeat on macOS instead of opening the press-and-hold accent menu. This fixes navigation with h, j, k and l, including in nvim-tree.
  • Zvim disables press-and-hold accents in its own application preferences before native text input starts. System-wide keyboard preferences remain unchanged.

Zvim v0.0.6

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Sep 18:20
fac0412

A focused Neovim frontend built with GPUI. This is an early development release.

New in 0.0.6

  • One application owns multiple windows, with one Dock icon. CLI launches join the running application while retaining independent Neovim processes, project directories and arguments. --wait waits for its own window to close.
  • Optional Focus follows mouse in Settings → General switches focus between editor and terminal panes without clicking. It is off by default.
  • Terminal scrollback search with Cmd+F, match counts, previous/next controls, Enter / Shift+Enter, and Escape to return to the terminal. Cmd+G / Cmd+Shift+G also navigate matches.
  • A native macOS Window menu lists open windows and marks the current one. Cmd+ / Cmd+Shift+ cycle windows; Cmd+M minimises. The menu also offers Bring All to Front.
  • Resize requests retain only the latest pending dimensions while Neovim is busy. In a benchmark with a simulated 25 ms plugin resize callback, 100 resize steps settled in 283–312 ms instead of 2.64–2.66 seconds. Lightweight callbacks retained the same throughput. These are RPC settling measurements, not GUI frame latency.
  • just install-dev builds and installs a development package into /Applications and removes its quarantine attribute after Zvim has been quit.

Zvim v0.0.5

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 25 Sep 13:25
ff3c67d

A focused Neovim frontend built with GPUI. This is an early development release.

New in 0.0.5

  • Terminal splits with independent tabs and draggable dividers. Cmd+D splits right, Cmd+Shift+D splits below, and Cmd+[ / ] focuses the left/right pane, matching the Zed defaults. These shortcuts are configurable in Settings → Keybindings.
  • Cmd+Shift+Enter zooms the focused terminal pane and restores the split layout. The Terminal menu also offers directional pane focus.
  • Exiting a shell automatically closes its tab. Empty splits collapse and remaining panes expand; the final terminal returns the space to the editor. Background exits preserve focus and do not reopen a hidden dock.
  • About Zvim in the macOS app menu displays the installed version.
  • Window size and position save shortly after moving/resizing, as well as on normal close. Corrected macOS title-bar sizing during restoration; fullscreen preserves the previous windowed placement.
  • Less rendering work: cached terminal themes, no hidden terminal control construction, allocation-free warmed text-cache lookups, and bounded cache eviction. Three paired release benchmarks measured 40–56% less editor CPU paint time across the tested workloads. This is not an equivalent claim about total application speed or input latency; see docs/PERFORMANCE.md for methodology and results.
  • Window geometry writes now run in an ordered background worker with atomic file replacement. Added just run-release and reproducible performance benchmarks for development.

Install

Requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 13 or newer. Download the macos-arm64 archive, move Zvim.app to Applications, then launch it. Use Settings → General → Command-line launcher to install the optional CLI. Keep the chosen bin directory on your shell's PATH.

Bundled Neovim 0.12.5 loads your existing Neovim configuration. No separate Ghostty installation is required. SHA256SUMS.txt contains archive checksums.

Known limitations

The terminal is experimental: no search UI, persisted sessions or IME composition support. Split proportions are retained only while the window remains open. Linux requires Wayland for the terminal and remains experimental; this release ships a macOS Apple Silicon archive only.

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 25 Sep 09:55
61f4a8f

A focused Neovim frontend built with GPUI. This is an early development release.

New in 0.0.4

  • Independent terminal tabs with a compact tab strip, new-tab and close buttons. Switching or hiding tabs preserves each shell, running program and scrollback.
  • Zed-style terminal defaults: Cmd+Shift+, toggles focus between terminal and editor; Cmd+Shift+. shows/hides the terminal; Cmd+Shift+Enter maximises/restores it.
  • With the terminal focused, Cmd+N creates a tab, Cmd+W closes it, Cmd+1–9 selects a tab, and Cmd+Shift+[ / ] switches tabs. Cmd+Alt+Left/Right also switches tabs.
  • Configure all seven terminal actions in Settings → Keybindings. Previous default backtick shortcuts migrate to the new defaults; custom shortcuts are preserved.
  • Window close and Quit check every terminal tab, including hidden tabs, before stopping running commands. New tabs use Neovim's current window-local directory.
  • Settings now has General and Keybindings tabs, smaller buttons and tighter spacing. Boolean settings use green switches when enabled and grey switches when disabled.

Install

Requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 13 or newer. Download the macos-arm64 archive, move Zvim.app to Applications, then launch it. Use Settings → General → Command-line launcher to install the optional CLI. Keep the chosen bin directory on your shell's PATH.

Bundled Neovim 0.12.5 loads your existing Neovim configuration. No separate Ghostty installation is required. SHA256SUMS.txt contains archive checksums.

Known limitations

The terminal is experimental: one pane per window with multiple tabs, but no terminal splits, search UI, persisted sessions or IME composition support. Split proportions are retained only while the window remains open. Linux requires Wayland for the terminal and remains experimental; this release ships a macOS Apple Silicon archive only.

macOS applications are ad-hoc signed, not Developer ID signed or notarised. Managed work laptops may require IT approval.

Zvim v0.0.3

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 25 Sep 08:18
1129b83

A focused Neovim frontend built with GPUI. This is an early development release.

New in 0.0.3

  • Resize the terminal by dragging a thin, one-pixel divider. The previous header bar has been removed.
  • Maximise the terminal to fill the window content area, then restore the previous split with Control+Shift+backtick or the Terminal menu.
  • Configure show/hide and maximise/restore shortcuts in Settings → Terminal keybindings. Record a shortcut, cancel with Escape, or reset to defaults. Changes save automatically and apply immediately.
  • Preserve the split proportion while hiding, showing, maximising and restoring the terminal in the same window.
  • macOS builds and release archives now target Apple Silicon only. Intel Mac builds have been removed from GitHub Actions.

Install

Requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 13 or newer. Download the macos-arm64 archive, move Zvim.app to Applications, then launch it. Use Settings → Command-line launcher to install the optional CLI. Keep the chosen bin directory on your shell's PATH.

Bundled Neovim 0.12.5 loads your existing Neovim configuration. No separate Ghostty installation is required. SHA256SUMS.txt contains archive checksums.

Known limitations

The terminal is experimental: one pane per window, with no tabs, search UI, persisted sessions or IME composition support. Split proportions are retained only while the window remains open. Linux requires Wayland for the terminal and remains experimental; this release ships a macOS Apple Silicon archive only.

The Rust/Neovim suite covers split limits, shortcut validation and preference persistence. Live dragging and shortcut recording have not yet been manually verified for this release.

macOS applications are ad-hoc signed, not Developer ID signed or notarised. Managed work laptops may require IT approval.

Zvim v0.0.2

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 24 Sep 22:20
bac130a

A focused Neovim frontend built with GPUI. This is an early development release.

New in 0.0.2

  • Native Ghostty terminal pane: toggle with Ctrl+backtick, the Terminal menu or :ZvimTerminal.
  • Terminal colours follow Neovim live, including NvChad/Base46. Settings can retain your Ghostty theme instead.
  • Install or update the zvim command from Settings, choosing your bin directory. No Python is required.
  • Improved window-close and Quit behaviour: confirm terminal shutdown before closing the editor, preserve the session on Cancel, and skip warnings for idle prompts detected by shell integration.
  • Retain terminal content behind close dialogs. After quitting Neovim directly, Keep Terminal expands the remaining session to fill the window.
  • macOS and Linux project scope; Windows support removed.

Install

Requires macOS 13 or newer. Apple Silicon Macs use macos-arm64; Intel Macs use macos-x86_64. Move Zvim.app to Applications, then launch it. Use Settings → Command-line launcher to install the optional CLI. Keep the chosen bin directory on your shell's PATH.

Bundled Neovim 0.12.5 loads your existing Neovim configuration. No separate Ghostty installation is required. SHA256SUMS.txt contains archive checksums.

Known limitations

The terminal is experimental: one pane per window, with no tabs, search UI, persisted sessions or IME composition support. Linux requires Wayland for the terminal and remains experimental; this release ships macOS archives only. Apple Silicon has been exercised locally; Intel runtime and Linux desktop behaviour need further interactive testing.

macOS applications are ad-hoc signed, not Developer ID signed or notarised. Managed work laptops may require IT approval.
