Release list
Z2 SDR 0.3.6
Z2 SDR is a touch-friendly fork of SDR++ for Android and desktop, with the ESP-SDR (ESP32-S3) source module: real IQ and the on-chip 16 / 40 / 80 MHz spectrum mode over the plain USB cable. It is not an official SDR++ release.
New in 0.3.6
- 4096 FFT bins in spectrum mode (16 / 40 / 80 MHz), on ESP32-S3 modules with PSRAM (e.g. N16R8). Update the board with Install firmware, then pick "4096 (PSRAM boards)" under FFT bins. Boards without PSRAM keep 2048; the module falls back automatically.
- Bundled firmware
4128c24: SPEC buffers rearranged (heap instead of fixed RAM); both cores in use as before.
0.3.5
- Menu: after you use it, it stays out for a few seconds after the mouse leaves. Pin menu keeps it docked next to the spectrum; Auto-hide menu at its top folds it away again.
- Packages are named
z2sdr_*. The Linux package is nowz2sdr(it replaces an installedsdrpppackage, because both install the same files). macOS:Z2SDR.app.
0.3.4
- Desktop: the menu hides itself. It folds away to the left edge, so the spectrum and waterfall use the full width. Move the mouse to the left edge or click the menu button to slide it in over the spectrum; it folds away again when the mouse leaves. Switch it off under Display, "Auto-hide menu".
- A fresh install starts on the ESP-SDR source (it used to start on Airspy).
0.3.3
- IQ tuning no longer stops the stream (bundled firmware
c9fbc1d). Each retune costs about 11 ms of samples. Update the board with Install firmware in the source menu. - The board is found without pressing reset: the serial port opens with DTR/RTS deasserted.
- New name (Z2 SDR) and icon. The Android package is now
io.z2labs.z2sdr, so it installs as a separate app next to the old "SDR++ ESP".
Earlier (0.3.x)
- Firmware update over USB from the app (Android OTG and desktop), with automatic restart.
- Desktop: playback starts on launch, hot-plug detection of the board, Auto range button, log file and Export debug log.
- Spectrum Export module: FFT snapshots (average / max hold) and continuous logs as CSV, also in spectrum mode.
- Android touch layout: full-screen waterfall, floating controls, pinch zoom, automatic FFT / waterfall range.

Z2 SDR 0.3.3
Z2 SDR 0.3.3
The app is now published as Z2 SDR (built on SDR++ and the ESP-SDR firmware, GPL-3.0; see Settings → About Z2 SDR for licenses and source links).
Changes
- IQ tuning no longer stops the stream. New bundled firmware (
c9fbc1d): a retune ends the capture run, the PLL is set, and the run restarts with continuous frame numbering. Each retune costs about 11 ms of samples (flagged as a gap). Previously a PLL write (~0.7 ms) overran the 16 MS/s ring and the stream died. Use Install firmware in the source menu to update the board. - Retunes while streaming IQ are sent at most 10 times per second.
- Board found without pressing reset: the serial port now opens with DTR/RTS deasserted (Windows and Linux). Opening it with these lines asserted could reboot the ESP32-S3, even into the ROM loader.
- New name and icon.
Android
- New package name
io.z2labs.z2sdr: it installs as a separate app next to the old "SDR++ ESP". Settings are not carried over; uninstall the old app when you no longer need it.

SDR++ ESP 0.3.2
Ready-to-run SDR++ ESP packages with the ESP-SDR (ESP32-S3) source module, for Android, Windows, macOS and Linux. This is a fork build of SDR++, not an official SDR++ release.
New in 0.3.2
- Spectrum Export module (all platforms): saves the spectrum as a CSV file for measurements. It also works in the on-chip spectrum modes, which have no IQ to record.
- one snapshot, an average, or a max hold over N FFTs;
- full span or only the visible part;
- continuous logging: one row per interval, with the frequencies as columns.
- Desktop builds get the comforts of the Android build:
- playback starts when SDR++ starts (Display: "Start playback when SDR++ starts");
- the ESP32-S3 source picks the board's native USB port. The port list shows which port is the board's native USB port and which is a USB-UART bridge, and warns when the UART port is selected;
- when the board is plugged in, the stream starts;
- the Auto button for the FFT / waterfall range, on by default;
- Export debug log at the bottom of the menu: a report with the log and the settings, saved to Downloads.
- New installations start in the ESP32-S3's 80 MHz spectrum mode with 2048 bins.
- Fixed a possible UI freeze when FFT data arrived before the window was laid out.
Everything from 0.3.1 is included (firmware updates from SDR++, smooth tuning, Android touch UI).

sdrpp-esp_ubuntu_noble_amd64.deb |
Ubuntu 24.04 x64. Replaces an official SDR++ package. |
Built by CI from z2labs/SDRPlusPlus esp-sdr (24d020e), bundled firmware 81452e4 (2026-10-07).
Known issues
- In IQ mode, tuning quickly can make the firmware end the stream. SDR++ restarts it, so you may hear a short gap. A firmware fix is in progress.
- Only one program can use the board's port at a time. Close other SDR++ windows or tools first.
SDR++ ESP 0.3.1
Ready-to-run SDR++ ESP packages with the ESP-SDR (ESP32-S3) source module, for Android, Windows, macOS and Linux. This is a fork build of SDR++, not an official SDR++ release.
New in 0.3.1
- Firmware updates from SDR++. The packages carry the matching ESP-SDR firmware. The source menu shows the board's firmware version and offers Install firmware when the board has none, an older one or a foreign one. Over the native USB port, on Android (USB OTG) and on the desktop. On the desktop the DevKit's UART port works too. See Firmware updates over USB.
- Smooth tuning with the bundled firmware: the frequency changes inside the running IQ stream, without restarting it.
- No UI freezes while connecting. If the board does not answer, playback stops and the menu says why.
- The stream restarts by itself when the firmware ends it, and the reason is logged.
- Out-of-range frequencies: a frequency outside 2204–2804 MHz (for example one remembered from another SDR) moves to the nearest frequency the board can receive, and the scale follows.
- Android:
- touch-friendly UI: nothing greys out while running, play/stop in the side menu, easier spectrum/waterfall divider;
- the screen stays on by default (switch in Display settings);
- SDRs start when plugged in;
- RTL-SDR start-up freezes fixed;
- a notice when the ESP32-S3 is plugged into its UART port instead of the native USB port;
- Export debug log at the bottom of the settings: sends the log, the settings and the device details for a bug report.
- The SDR++ build revision is shown in the side menu.

Built by CI from z2labs/SDRPlusPlus esp-sdr (f76fa4e), module 10bb763, bundled firmware 81452e4 (2026-10-07).
Known issues
- In IQ mode, tuning quickly can make the firmware end the stream. SDR++ restarts it, so you may hear a short gap. A firmware fix is in progress.
- An existing installation keeps its old settings. If the ESP-SDR source does not show up, add it in the Module Manager (
esp_sdr_source) or reinstall.
ESP-SDR for SDR++ v0.2.0
ESP-SDR (ESP32-S3) source module for SDR++, v0.2.0. These are ready-to-run SDR++ ESP packages with the module already included, plus the on-chip 16 / 40 / 80 MHz spectrum mode. They are the same files as the SDR++ ESP esp-v0.2.0 release in the z2labs/SDRPlusPlus fork, which is not an official SDR++ release.

Notes:
- Firmware: the ESP32-S3 needs ESP-SDR firmware with the IQS stream; see the README for flashing.
- SDRplay on macOS and Linux: these packages have no SDRplay module, because the SDRplay 3.15 installers are no longer downloadable. The Windows package includes it.
- The .deb packages use the same package name as the official SDR++, so installing one replaces an official SDR++ installation.
- Building the module yourself against your own SDR++ build: see the README. The module must match the SDR++ core version it is loaded into.
- Measurements (phase noise, NBFM SINAD and sensitivity, stability, comparison with HackRF and BB60C) are in the README and
docs/MEASUREMENTS.md.
