Doc Works 0.9.2

Spreadsheets arrive, Google-style suggestions for documents, and slides can now be copied between decks.

New: Excel / Google Sheets files (.xlsx)

  • Fast grid that stays smooth on sheets with 100,000+ cells: frozen panes, merged cells, number formats, fonts, fills, borders, wrapping, pictures, hidden rows, columns and sheets.
  • Formulas recalculate live across sheets, with about 90 common functions (SUM, IF, VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, SUMIFS, TEXT, DATE, ...). Click cells to insert references.
  • Copy and paste, fill handle, sort, filters, insert / delete / resize rows and columns, freeze, merge, sheet tabs, find and replace, name box.
  • Conditional formatting (colour scales, data bars, value / text / formula rules, top / bottom, duplicates) with a rules dialog.
  • Dropdowns and data validation that reject or flag bad input.
  • Charts drawn from live cell values: insert one from a selection and edit it in the chart editor.
  • Export to PDF. Files you don't edit are saved back byte for byte.

Documents (.docx)

  • Suggesting mode: edits are recorded as tracked changes. This covers new and joined paragraphs, table rows, columns and merged cells, and headers and footers.
  • Text wraps on both sides of a picture placed in the middle of a column.
  • Each section keeps its own page size, so landscape sections get landscape pages.
  • Paragraph borders and shading.
  • Editable equations (LaTeX, with a live preview).
  • Export to PDF.
  • Comment boxes grow to fit their text. Comments from more files now show up.

Slides (.pptx)

  • Slide transitions and object animations: create them, edit them and play them in the slideshow.
  • Copy, cut and paste slides between decks from the thumbnail menu or Ctrl+C / Ctrl+X / Ctrl+V. Pasted slides keep their original theme and layouts.
  • Chart formatting: type, stacking, title, legend, data labels, gridlines, axes and series colours.
  • Export to PDF.
  • Thumbnails fit the sidebar, and the selected slide is clearly highlighted.
  • Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y now work after using dialogs.

Fixes and polish

  • Tighter toolbar rows; menus open next to their buttons.
  • A header created from the dialog is no longer lost on save.
  • Pie charts use the right colours, and the chart palette no longer repeats after six series.
  • Crowded axis labels are spread out.
  • View preferences are stored in the vault.
  • Requires Obsidian 1.8.7 or newer.
