The first release of chatomon.

Declare a chat agent once — an atom made of instructions, knowledge and a connector — surround it with orbitals that check the messages going in and the replies coming out, and build it into a native agent of the framework you already use. chatomon never runs the agent itself: it installs its checks inside the framework.

What is in it

Atoms and orbitals

• Atom, Knowledge and Atom.build(), which returns the framework's own agent.
• Input and output orbitals in ordered chains, with four outcomes: let the message through, block it with a fixed reply, block it and let the model write a guided refusal, or answer in place of the model.
• Guidance that steers the model for one turn, or makes it write the reply again, without entering the conversation history.
• Fail-closed by default: an orbital that fails or times out blocks the message unless configured otherwise.
• Orbitals ready to use: JudgeOrbital (an LLM judge), MessageLengthOrbital and TurnLimitOrbital (no model call), and ScopeGuardOrbital (V1 and V2) and ClaimExtractorOrbital for Principled Intelligence's guard models. Your own orbital is a function with @orbital, or a subclass of Orbital.

Every connector passes the same contract suite. The core package depends only on pydantic and the OpenTelemetry API.

Audit and privacy

• A TurnReport for every turn, through on_turn.
• OpenTelemetry spans and logs that carry no message content unless capture_content allows it.

The studio

chatomon studio module:atom (extra studio) opens a page on your machine: chat with an atom, watch every orbital decide, tune the orbitals, reload your code, and take the result back as code, as a preset and as a test. The spectral extra connects it to Spectral for evaluation at scale.

Known limits

• Alpha. The API can still change: while the version is 0.x, a backwards-incompatible change bumps the minor version.
• Google ADK 2.10 to 2.12. 2.13 is not supported yet (#118).
• Each connector's page lists what it does not check yet, such as streaming in some frameworks, tool outputs and sub-agents.
