Ability to resume sessions for external agents, like Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Claude Code #41140

100%. To resume, I need to go back to the CLI. |
|
This is the reason why I cannot switch to using the UI for agents. Resuming a conversation is a must |
|
+1, supporting session resume would improve DX for sure, and also reduce consequences of #41833 |
|
no conversation history shocked me! |

This is badly needed. The lack of a resume feature makes working with agents extremely fragile. Restarting the editor is normal (e.g. updating Zed), and crashes or accidental restarts happen. When that occurs, losing the entire agent session makes the feature largely unusable for any non-trivial work. |

Still work in progress? We want this feature for a long time... |

I'm writing through a translator) |

Im back to vs code because of it

still waiting for this? I moved away from any agents inside Zed. still
using the editor but agent runs in a terminal on side. no time to waste
waiting for these things to land :)
considering what agents are capable of, you can do it yourself instead of
waiting)

Sorry to hijack guys but I may have finally solved context. I know it’s
unrelated but also it kind is. Can’t wait.

I never let codex go below 50% context left, generally when it reaches 60%
I just start a new thread

History for external agents is now supported in v0.225.9. Please open issues if you run into any bugs! |
|
Wow, you’re bringing me back! I hate VS Code but desperate times.

seems it's not available for gemini, isn't it? |

Uh oh!
There was an error while loading. Please reload this page.
VS Code as well as IDEs based on it all have this ability, which helps a lot when running long sessions.
I really miss this option in Zed.
Otherwise almost perfect IDE for my needs.
