Ability to resume sessions for external agents, like Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Claude Code

VS Code as well as IDEs based on it all have this ability, which helps a lot when running long sessions.
I really miss this option in Zed.
Otherwise almost perfect IDE for my needs.

This is badly needed. The lack of a resume feature makes working with agents extremely fragile. Restarting the editor is normal (e.g. updating Zed), and crashes or accidental restarts happen. When that occurs, losing the entire agent session makes the feature largely unusable for any non-trivial work.

I asked codex to add the codex app protocol (recently released along with codex app) to zed, he made a bridge between acp and codex app protocol, which allowed me to use resume, now I'm finishing it, but in general you can assemble it yourself in half an hour codex coped

this is the first time I've done this, there's clearly something I can finish. I'll put the source code in my repo later. Whoever needs it will download it and ask them to build the codex.

I hate to butt in, but the way I manage this is by asking claude to store its conversation in a file in my project, then reference it later. It's not a great solution by far, but it works pretty well. Also, every time I ask claude to do something, I ask it to create a plan file that can be referenced later. This is actually better than storing the session, as it allows me to have a conversation with it about the contents to tweak it for when it is used.
