mGraphDB is an embedded graph database, published under the MIT License.
These pages collect the essential information about the project: its concepts, its architecture, and the plan that guides its development.
- Provide several implementations sharing one design:
- Rust — for performance and memory safety (primary implementation).
- Swift — for direct integration into iOS / macOS software.
- Deliver a stable, embeddable database (SQLite-like footprint) exposing several abstraction layers.
- Schema-less: no type definitions required; ontologies and schemas are nodes in the graph, not engine-enforced constraints.
- Full ACID support is not a target for the moment.
Planning & process
- Software Development Plan — process, build system, quality gates, roadmap.
- Requirements — numbered functional and non-functional requirements.
- Test Plan — how each requirement is verified.
Design & architecture
- General Concepts — graph model and core ideas.
- Architecture — modules and how they fit together.
- Persistent Layer — on-disk record design (the "Small Profile").
- String Store — append-only deduplicated string subsystem.
Scratch
- Mermaid diagrams — diagram snippets.
