Netflix Playback Fails (UI3012 / E100) #12594

Description

Preliminary Checks

  • I have read and understood the important section above.
  • I have searched existing issues and avoided creating duplicates.
  • I am not filing an enhancement request.
  • I have checked that this issue cannot be reproduced on Mozilla Firefox.
  • I have checked that this issue can be reproduced once I removed all my Mods and Custom CSS.

What happened?

Netflix playback consistently fails in Zen Browser on Windows.

Attempting to play any title results in alternating error codes:

  • UI3012
  • E100

Netflix also displays a message suggesting this may be a browser compatibility issue and recommends using an alternate browser.

The same Netflix accounts work correctly in:

  • Latest stable Mozilla Firefox (vanilla build)
  • Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge)-
  • So this appears specific to Zen Browser.

I suspect:
WMF_HW_DRM is blocklisted (value = 2).
media.wmf.media-engine.enabled is force-disabled.
Failure code: FEATURE_FAILURE_USER_FORCE_DISABLED. in about:support.

upon setting value to true(1), Netflix logs out instead of throwing error.

Expected behavior

Content should begin streaming normally, as it does in supported browsers.

Actual behavior

Netflix displays Error Code: E100/UI3012 & A message suggests the browser may not be supported

Steps to reproduce

Navigate to https://www.netflix.com/
