Release list
0.8.0
The road stops disappearing, distant ground is smooth again, and a batch of rendering fixes from the other ReGPU ports.
Fixed
- Black wedges in the road (report #4) are fixed for real. When a track section was streamed in again at the same place in memory, the renderer only spot-checked its triangle list for changes and could keep drawing the old one, so a chunk of road stopped drawing after a lap or two. Every index is now checked. (0.7.8's change only made it rarer.)
- Grainy, shimmering ground and textures. Since 0.5.3 every pixel shader sampled its textures at full detail and ignored mipmaps. Distant surfaces are smooth again.
- Missing draws when a frame needs more upload space. The upload buffer now grows instead of dropping the rest of the frame.
- Tyre marks flickering with stray triangles. Geometry the game rewrites every frame is now copied while it changes.
- Rendering fixes shared with the other ReGPU ports: rectangle winding and stencil faces, mip chains rebuilt when a render target is resolved again, visibility-query geometry no longer drawn, stray triangles from draws reading past their index buffer, mini vertex fetches, shaders with subroutines (the one shader that never compiled now does), 1D textures, colour exponent bias, 16-bit fixed resolves, and colour exports kept in order.
New
- FSR 1 upscaling on the launcher's Play page: render scale (50-100%) and sharpening.
Shader changes: your shader cache is rebuilt once, so the first start and first races take longer while shaders compile.

0.7.8: sharper distant ground, anisotropic filtering, wheel bindings
Sharper distant ground, an anisotropic filtering option, and wheel bindings.
Fixed
- Grainy gravel, sand and ground in the distance. Small textures tiled over the ground had none of their smaller mip levels on the GPU (the Xbox 360 keeps those in a packed "mip tail" that the renderer didn't read), so distant ground was sampled at full detail and speckled. They now get their whole mip chain.
- Black wedges on the road at Sebring Club after a restart (report #4) are fixed by the same change (confirmed in an A/B test against 0.7.7).
New
- Anisotropic filtering on the launcher's Play page: Off, 2x, 4x, 8x or 16x (16x by default, as before).
play.logrecords the setting. - Wheel bindings. The Racing wheel panel's Bindings button opens a window with live readouts where any wheel, pedal, shifter or button box input can be bound to each controller input (Bind, Add, Default). The force feedback settings (strength, spring, rotation, reverse) are in this window now.
No shader changes: your shader cache is kept.

0.7.7: wheel force feedback no longer drops out
A hotfix for racing wheel force feedback, from a player's bug report.
Fixed
- Force feedback dropping out about 20–30 seconds into a race (reported through the launcher's Report tab). On a Simagic Alpha EVO, the steering force and damper stopped partway into every race, leaving only the centring spring. The cause is in SDL, the library we use for wheels: on Windows it sent the game's "play until stopped" forces with a duration that overflowed, and some wheel bases then end those forces after about 30 seconds. We now ship SDL built with the fix, so endless forces stay endless. Thanks to the player who reported it, and to ForzaHorizon1-ReImagined, where the same bug was tracked down.
- Force feedback no longer fades for a moment when the game briefly flips its "driving" state as a race loads.
No shader changes: your shader cache is kept.

0.7.6: wheel log spam fixed
A small hotfix.
Fixed
play.logfilling up with wheel messages. The game switches its "driving" state several times a frame, and each switch wrote a line toplay.log: over 10,000 lines in one session. Only the first few are logged now. Shared logs and bug reports are smaller as a result.
No shader changes: your shader cache is kept.

0.7.5: DLC fix (reported bug)
A hotfix for DLC that didn't show up, from a player's bug report.
Fixed
- DLC cars and tracks missing (reported through the launcher's Report tab). A player's DLC packs were found by the game, but none of their cars or tracks appeared (for example the 2006 Saleen S281). Packs extracted with some third-party tools put the pack's contents one folder deeper than the game expects, so the game loaded an empty pack and never added its cars to the database. The game now finds the contents in that layout too. Thanks for the report!
play.lognow lists each DLC pack at startup and whether its contents were found, so any pack that still doesn't load is easy to spot.
No shader changes: your shader cache is kept.

0.7.4: faster in races (+9% average), GPU kept busy
Another performance update: higher frame rates in races, and the GPU now kept busy.
Faster
- The emulated GPU's command processor, the thread that turns the game's graphics commands into PC GPU work, does much less per draw: textures are checked for changes ahead of time on helper threads, render-target images are no longer re-hashed every frame, repeated shader loads and per-draw constants cost less, and graphics work goes to the GPU in fewer, larger batches.
- In races that thread is no longer the limit: the GPU is now kept busy almost all the time.
Measured with benchmark.cmd (Sunset race, 8 cars, 1440p, MSAA 4x, uncapped; Ryzen 7 5800X, RTX 4070), five runs each, alternating:
| 0.7.3 | 0.7.4 | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Average | 193 fps | 210 fps | +9% |
| 1% low | 138 fps | 141 fps | +2% |
| GPU busy | 96% | 100% |
Your numbers will differ with your CPU, GPU and settings; the gain is largest when the CPU, not the GPU, limits the frame rate. With a frame cap or VSync on you'll mostly see it as fewer dips.
No shader changes: your shader cache from 0.7.3 is kept, so there's no recompile this time.

0.7.3: faster in races (+6% average, +11% lows)
A performance update: higher frame rates and steadier frames in races.
Faster
- The emulated GPU's command processor, the thread that reads the game's graphics commands, does less work per command: most of the filler commands in each frame are now skipped with a single check. That thread was the limit on frame rate in races.
Measured with benchmark.cmd (Sunset race, 8 cars, 1440p, uncapped; Ryzen 7 5800X, RTX 4070), three runs each:
| Before | 0.7.3 | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Average | 181 fps | 192 fps | +6% |
| 1% low | 118 fps | 131 fps | +11% |
Your numbers will differ with your CPU and settings; the gain is largest when the CPU, not the GPU, limits the frame rate. With a frame cap or VSync on you'll mostly see it as fewer dips.
Fixed
- Small rendering accuracy fixes: decals use the console's slope-scaled depth bias, and one shader's texture-detail instruction now works.
The first start after updating rebuilds the shader cache, which takes a few minutes.

0.7.2: profiles sign in with any controller slot
A fix for profiles not signing in.
Fixed
- "No Gamer Profiles signed in" with a controller connected. If your controller had ended up in Windows' second controller slot (for example because another controller, Steam Input, DS4Windows or a virtual pad connected first), the game treated you as player 2, who is never signed in: no profile and no saves. Player 1 is now always the first connected controller, whichever slot it's in. Vibration follows the same controller.

0.7.1: showroom car shadow fixed
A rendering fix for the car showroom.
Fixed
- Car shadows in the showroom. In Career's car select and My Cars, black wedge-shaped shards appeared on the floor under the car and popped in and out as it turned (since 0.5.7). The floor shadow is laid on top of the floor with a small depth offset that wasn't being applied, so the two fought over which one showed. The shadow is now soft and even, as on the console.
- Related accuracy fixes, both matching Xenia: texture lookups honour the filtering each shader asks for, and every draw uses the console's pixel-centre convention.
Shaders are recompiled once on the first start after updating.

0.7.0: racing wheels (beta)
Racing wheel support, in beta.
New
- Racing wheels with force feedback. Plug a wheel in before starting the game and it works as an Xbox 360 wheel: steering, pedals, buttons, and the game's own force feedback (its steering force, centring spring and damper). Forces fade out in menus, pauses and replays, ease smoothly between the game's frames (direct drive wheels showed every step), and stop when the game closes.
- Racing wheel panel on the launcher's Settings page: the wheel the game found, force feedback strength, centring spring and damper, the rotation your wheel is set to (the game was made for the 360 wheel's 270 degrees and scales steering from it), and a switch for a steering force that pulls the wrong way.
play.lognames the wheel the game found, its axes and its force feedback, or says none is connected.
Please test your wheel and report back. It has only been tried on a Thrustmaster T598 so far; other wheels get a generic button layout. Use the launcher's Report tab (or the Report how it went button on the Racing wheel panel) and tell us which wheel you have and whether steering, pedals, buttons and force feedback work, and how the force feels.
The force feedback model comes from the Forza Horizon recomp (same engine, BSD 3-Clause); wheels are read through SDL3.
No shader changes: your shader cache is kept.
How to update (Windows)

FM2-0.7.0-patch.zipover your install. - From anything older, or a new install:
FM2-Setup-0.7.0.exe. It keeps your saves, settings, shader cache and DLC.
Linux (Proton): FM2-Linux-0.7.0.tar.gz, unpacked over your FM2-Linux folder. Wheels there are untested; a Thrustmaster wheel needs the hid-tmff2 driver for force feedback.
