PlansBar 0.1.0 — source preview
First public preview of PlansBar — a macOS menu bar app that indexes executable Markdown plans across the local Git repositories you add explicitly.
Install
There is no downloadable app bundle in this release. PlansBar has no Apple Developer ID yet, and any downloaded bundle would be quarantined by Gatekeeper. Building locally avoids that entirely:
git clone https://github.com/zergzorg/plansbar.git
cd plansbar
Scripts/build-app.sh
open build/PlansBar.appRequirements: macOS 14 or later, Git, Xcode Command Line Tools. Node.js and npm are not needed by the app.
What works
- Add one or more repository roots from any directory; each is validated as
ready,missing_structure,invalid_plansorinaccessible. - Focus and Backlog modes, title-first search with
Cmd+For/, keyboard navigation. - Provider-neutral handoff: copy a prompt, or open Codex CLI or Claude Code in the right repository. The app never edits your plans.
- Incremental indexing: FSEvents watches
docsin each repository, Git supplies freshness with one call per repository, and the cached snapshot renders before the completed archive is parsed. - Repository preparation prompts for repositories that are not yet in Plan Format v1.
Limits in this preview
- Plan Format v1 only. Older plan layouts are reported as
invalid_planswith stable error codes, never silently dropped. - Interface is English only; Russian localization is planned.
- Eight non-English README translations are drafts pending native review.
- Universal binaries and notarized distribution require an Apple Developer ID and are not part of this line.
Privacy
Plan contents never leave the machine. No telemetry, no accounts, no network service. Configuration and the derived snapshot live in ~/Library/Application Support/io.github.zergzorg.plansbar/.
