Shell Buddy v0.2.1
Shell Buddy v0.2.1 polishes the AI input experience with a particle reveal, a compact loading spinner, and steadier text and cursor rendering.
What changed
- Entering
//reveals the input background from left to right over 720ms. Gold particles follow the moving front and disappear when the plain background is fully open. Typing, pasting, or resizing immediately completes the animation. - Model generation uses an npm-style dot spinner in the prompt position. It needs no Nerd Font and returns to the arrow when the request completes, fails, or is cancelled.
- Spinner ticks update only the icon cell. Descriptions and streamed command prefixes stay in place instead of being cleared and redrawn. Entry particles avoid the placeholder, and cursor movement is hidden during painting to prevent visible jitter.
- Tab keeps its clear-and-refresh feedback while preserving incomplete-command protection, candidate deduplication, and request cancellation.
- Added
shell-buddy update, update --check, andupdate --no-font, with shell completion. Updates verify SHA-256 checksums and preserve model configuration, credentials, and cache. - Added the MIT license to the repository and release bundles. Upgrade
For v0.2.0 and earlier, run the installer once:
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/zhanbodev/shell-buddy/v0.2.1/install.sh | sh -s -- --version v0.2.1$installer = Join-Path $env:TEMP 'shell-buddy-install.ps1'
Invoke-WebRequest https://raw.githubusercontent.com/zhanbodev/shell-buddy/v0.2.1/install.ps1 -OutFile $installer
pwsh -File $installer -Version v0.2.1Reload the integration in existing sessions:
# Zsh
eval "$(shell-buddy init zsh)"
# Bash 5+
eval "$(shell-buddy init bash)"shell-buddy init powershell | Out-String | Invoke-ExpressionFuture releases can be installed with shell-buddy update. The default square background and loading spinner need no custom font. Rounded input continues to use Shell Buddy Icons 1.1; no new font glyphs are required for this update.

Bundles include the executable, symbol font, MIT license, and current-user installer for macOS Apple Silicon, macOS Intel, Linux x86_64 (musl), and Windows x86_64. Verify downloads with the attached SHA256SUMS.
Release packages are built and tested on native macOS, Ubuntu, and Windows runners. Model tests use local mock services. Binaries are unsigned and macOS builds are not notarized.
Shell Buddy v0.2.0
Shell Buddy v0.2.0 makes AI input feel like part of your shell: one gold prompt, a quiet input background, and clear generation and acceptance states.
What changed
- AI mode temporarily takes over the current input row with a single gold
❯. Your original$,%,>, or themed prompt returns when you accept or cancel; context above a multiline prompt stays visible. - Empty input displays
What do you need?. Generation and Tab refresh change prompt brightness, while complete commands reveal an acceptance hint. Partial or hidden commands remain unavailable for acceptance and execution. - The default
input_style: "square"needs no custom font. Optionalinput_style: "rounded"uses the included Shell Buddy Icons 1.1 font, with single-line and multiline corners. - Background painting handles pane resizes without wrapping old-width padding into extra rows. Chinese editing, candidate wrapping, and native prompt restoration have additional regression coverage.
- The font patcher adds the new cap glyphs to a fresh copy of your static monospace font while preserving its original text glyphs and advances. It rejects occupied private-use slots and existing output files.
Upgrade
Install the matching bundle, then reload the integration in existing sessions:
# Zsh
eval "$(shell-buddy init zsh)"
# Bash 5+
eval "$(shell-buddy init bash)"shell-buddy init powershell | Out-String | Invoke-ExpressionModel profiles and credentials are preserved. Legacy icon and nerd_font settings are ignored; missing input_style defaults to square. The setup wizard removes those legacy fields when saving.
To enable rounded input, first configure Shell Buddy Icons 1.1+ in your terminal, then choose rounded in shell-buddy init or set "input_style": "rounded" in your existing configuration and run shell-buddy restart. Existing mascot-only fonts and patched text fonts must be updated. Installing the symbol font does not automatically select it in your terminal. See the bundled font guides for mapping and patching instructions.

Release packages are built and checked on native macOS, Ubuntu, and Windows runners. Model tests use offline mock services; font rendering still depends on terminal configuration. Binaries are unsigned and macOS builds are not notarized.
Shell Buddy v0.1.0
Shell Buddy turns a leading // description into a shell command, with local rules, accepted-command cache and a selected streaming model.
This first release includes macOS Apple Silicon/Intel, Linux x86_64 and Windows x86_64 bundles. Each bundle includes the custom lizard icon font and a current-user installer. Icons default to the standard star; the custom font is opt-in after terminal font setup. init configures the application and never downloads fonts.
Downloads include SHA-256 checksums. Extract the complete archive and run its installer. See the bundled README and font guides for shell initialization, credentials and font configuration.
Model and network latency depend on the configured provider. Terminal-specific modified Enter requires key configuration. Font installation alone does not select the terminal rendering font. The binary is not yet signed or notarized.
