New Features

  • restrict_workspace setting — New boolean configuration option (default: true) in [settings] that controls whether built-in file tools
    are restricted to the workspace directory. When set to false, all file tools (read_file, write_file, edit_file, glob, grep) can access
    any path on the system, enabling use cases like referencing external knowledge bases or documentation stored outside the project
    directory.
  [settings]
  restrict_workspace = false

Improvements

  • Better tool error display — Tool error summaries in the TUI now show the actual error message (e.g., error: path 'X' is outside the
    workspace boundary) instead of a bare error string, making it much easier to diagnose issues at a glance.

Configuration

The new setting follows the standard layered config merge semantics:

  • Supported in both user config (~/.krew/settings.toml) and project config (.krew/settings.toml)
  • Project config takes precedence over user config
  • Default is true (existing behavior unchanged)
