An educational app blending creative expression and mathematical exploration.
Developed by a student team at the University of San Diego
MathArt Playground is a free iOS app that helps learners visualize and create vibrant geometric art while intuitively engaging with core math concepts like symmetry, rotation, and transformation.
Originally built as a year-long capstone project, the app is now live on the App Store and used by classrooms to inspire open-ended visual learning.
- Designed for learners aged 4+
- Explore shapes, color theory, symmetry, and patterns
- No sign-in, ads, or tracking — just privacy-first, tactile learning
- Combines STEM and the arts (STEAM) in a hands-on, engaging format
- Minimal UI for young users; accessibility-forward
- Randomize, save, and share your unique math-inspired creations
- Built by students, for students — now live on the App Store!
We believe every child should feel empowered to explore math as more than equations. MathArt helps them see that math can be creative, colorful, and uniquely expressive.
“Beautiful things emerge when math is playful.”
