CloudPool 2.0.1: CloudPool opens again

Choose a tag to compare

@zubairkhan778 zubairkhan778 released this 26 Sep 19:30

CloudPool opens again.

  • 2.0.0 stopped at "Starting CloudPool" and never opened its window. Everything behind the window kept working, so syncs, jobs and transfers carried on; only the window could not start. This release fixes it.
  • On 2.0.0? Download this version and install it over the old one. The update button lives in the window that would not open, so 2.0.0 cannot update itself. Your accounts, drives and login are untouched.
  • Releases are now checked for this before they are built, so it cannot ship again.

Everything else is as in 2.0.0: sign in with Google, and your drives for Claude and other AI apps.

CloudPool 2.0.0: Sign in with Google, and your drives for AI apps

@zubairkhan778 zubairkhan778 released this 26 Sep 01:10

You sign in with Google now, and Claude and other AI apps can use your drives.

Sign in with Google

  • The first screen has one button, Continue with Google. Your browser opens CloudPool's sign-in page, you pick your account, and CloudPool comes back signed in. There is no CloudPool password to make or forget.
  • The same Google account opens the same drives on every computer, on the phone web app and in the Android app.
  • Already have a CloudPool login? Nothing is lost. Sign in with Google, then open https://cloudpool.vercel.app/account and bring the old login over once with its username and password: every account, drive, share link and setting comes along. The old password then stops working, and computers still signed in with it ask you to sign in with Google.
  • How your login is kept has changed, and https://cloudpool.vercel.app/security#login says exactly how. Your account list is still stored encrypted; the CloudPool website now holds the key to it, which is what makes Google sign-in and the MCP server possible.

Your drives for AI apps and scripts

  • Make an API key on your account page and connect the CloudPool MCP server to Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code. They can list, read, search, save, move and share files, only as far as the key allows.
  • A REST API does the same for your own scripts, plus share links, accounts and drives. Everything is on https://cloudpool.vercel.app/developers.
  • This computer answers for the accounts only it can open. OneDrive, Dropbox, buckets, NAS boxes and disks are reached through CloudPool on your computer while it is open, so AI apps see every account. Turn it off in Settings, Answer MCP and API calls.

Also

  • App lock asks for a passcode you choose for this computer, since a Google login has no password. Touch ID works as before.

Install this over your current version; from 1.5.0 you can install it from inside CloudPool. A computer already signed in stays signed in; it asks for Google once its login has been brought over.

CloudPool 1.9.2: check the pieces, and know before you connect

Choose a tag to compare

@zubairkhan778 zubairkhan778 released this 24 Sep 22:08

Two things you could not do before: check that a split file is still whole, and find out what a service costs you in surprises before you connect it.

Check the pieces

  • A file past 3.5 GB is kept as numbered pieces with a small index beside them, and the drive hides both, so there was no way to ask whether they were all still there.
  • Right-click any file and choose Check the pieces. It reads the index and counts what is underneath the drive, downloading nothing, so it answers just as quickly on a 40 GB file as a small one.
  • It catches the failure that actually happens: a piece stranded when an account is disconnected or expires. It tells you which one is missing.
  • It is honest about what it checked. Every piece present and the right length is not the same as every byte inside them being undamaged, and the dialog says so rather than letting a tick imply more.

Know before you connect

  • TeraBox now says it has no public API, so CloudPool signs in the way the website does and TeraBox can change that whenever it likes; and that files over 4 GB are stored as pieces which are not encrypted unless you use a private folder.
  • Google Drive mentions the shared sign-in key, but only while you are actually using it. Once you have set up your own key the note disappears, because it would no longer be true.
  • The note also counts accounts you already have, so a fourth of the same service says so.
  • Services with nothing worth warning about show nothing at all. It is meant to stay worth reading.

Install this over your current version; from 1.5.0 you can install it from inside CloudPool.

CloudPool 1.9.1: sync skips what a project rebuilds

Choose a tag to compare

@zubairkhan778 zubairkhan778 released this 24 Sep 21:39

Syncing a folder of code no longer means syncing everything the project rebuilds.

Sync skips what a project rebuilds

  • Installed dependencies and build caches are no longer synced: node_modules, vendor, .venv, pycache, .tox, .next, .nuxt, .svelte-kit, .angular, .turbo, .gradle, .dart_tool, .terraform and DerivedData, among others.
  • They are enormous, they change on every build, and a copy of them is worth nothing without the project that made them. A synced folder of code should now be quick instead of tens of thousands of files.
  • A repository's .git folder is skipped too. It is a database rather than a pile of files, and syncing one two-way between computers can leave it unusable. Version control belongs to your remote.

Only names that mean one thing

  • A folder called Build, Target, Dist or Vendors is as likely to be your own work, so those keep syncing exactly as before. Only lower-case vendor, the Composer convention, is skipped.

Nothing already in your drive is removed

  • The rule hides these folders from both sides at once, so anything you have already uploaded stays where it is. It simply stops being checked on each pass.
  • Your local files are never touched by this: an excluded folder is one CloudPool stops looking at, not one it deletes.

Install this over your current version; from 1.5.0 you can install it from inside CloudPool.

CloudPool 1.9.0: a face of its own

Choose a tag to compare

@zubairkhan778 zubairkhan778 released this 23 Sep 05:57

CloudPool has a logo, and the app is built around it.

A face of its own

  • Two colours run through everything now: the blue of the mark and the deep navy of the wordmark. Surfaces are cool rather than warm, text is navy rather than near-black, and the reservoir gauge fills in the brand blue.
  • A new icon in the Dock, the Start menu and your app list, and a new glyph in the menu bar and the notification area, both drawn from the logo itself.
  • The website, the phone web app and the app now look like one product.

Your accent

  • The accent starts out as CloudPool blue. If you never changed it, that is what you get.
  • Teal is still on the list, in Settings, Appearance. If you picked it on purpose it stays exactly as it was, and you can switch back to it any time.

Nothing else moved

  • No change to your accounts, drives, syncs, jobs or files. This release is the look, and only the look.

Install this over your current version; from 1.5.0 you can install it from inside CloudPool.

CloudPool 1.8.0: a phone that backs itself up

Choose a tag to compare

@zubairkhan778 zubairkhan778 released this 21 Sep 01:12

Your phone can now back itself up, on its own, every night.

A phone that backs itself up

  • In Migrate & Sync, Sync, switch on Let this phone back itself up. Scan the code with your phone and follow six steps once in the Shortcuts app.
  • After that the phone hands its new photos to CloudPool by itself, with nothing to tap. They land in Sync / your phone / Photos, the same folder the phone web app uses, and anything already in your drive is skipped.
  • No web page can read a phone's photo library, which is why the web app has to ask you to pick. The Shortcuts app can, with one grant, so this is the way to have it run unattended without an app from the App Store.

It stays on your own network

  • The door is shut until you switch it on, answers one random address, accepts only devices on your own network, refuses anything over 5 GB, and closes when you switch it off or quit CloudPool.
  • New address rolls it if you ever want to.
  • Nothing is sent to a server of ours.

On the phone

  • Full sync and Full migrate now open the picker straight away instead of asking twice.

Install this over your current version; from 1.5.0 you can install it from inside CloudPool.

CloudPool 1.7.0: a folder as a wall of pictures

Choose a tag to compare

@zubairkhan778 zubairkhan778 released this 21 Sep 00:15

Open a folder and see what is in it, not a list of file names.

A wall of pictures

  • Two buttons at the top right of a folder switch between the list and a grid of tiles. CloudPool remembers which one you prefer.
  • Photos and videos, Illustrator and Photoshop files, PDFs, Word, Excel, Keynote, HEIC and camera raw all show what is actually inside them.
  • Arrow keys move through the grid a row at a time, space shows a file full size, and selection, menus and dragging work exactly as they do in the list.

Built on the preview, so it is quick

  • A file drawn for its tile opens full size instantly when you press space, and a file you have previewed already has its tile.
  • A folder you have looked at before comes back in a blink: the pictures are kept on this computer.
  • Files too big to be worth fetching for a tile keep their icon, and a file nothing can draw is remembered as such, so the same file never slows a folder down twice.

Private folders stay private

  • Pictures drawn from a drive's private folder go to a folder belonging to this run of CloudPool, wiped when it locks and when it closes. Encrypted files leave nothing behind.

Install this over your current version; from 1.5.0 you can install it from inside CloudPool.

CloudPool 1.6.0: look at a file without downloading it

Choose a tag to compare

@zubairkhan778 zubairkhan778 released this 20 Sep 21:36

Press space on a file in your drive and look at it, whatever kind it is.

Looking at a file

  • Space on a file (or Preview, next to Download) opens it in the window. The arrow keys move through the folder, Esc closes.
  • Photos, PDFs, text and code, video and music that play.
  • On a Mac, anything Quick Look can draw: Illustrator, Photoshop, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, HEIC, camera raw and more.
  • Illustrator files open as pages you can zoom, because an .ai file is nearly always a PDF underneath, and CloudPool checks.
  • EPS is shown from the preview picture saved inside the file.
  • Files with nothing to show, and files too big to be worth fetching, say so and offer to open with the app on your computer instead.

Built to be quick

  • Every file you look at is kept on this computer, so looking at it again is instant.
  • While you look at one file, the ones either side are fetched quietly, so the arrow keys rarely wait.
  • Nothing appears in Transfers: looking is not moving.

Install this over your current version; nothing is lost. From 1.5.0 you can install it from inside CloudPool.

CloudPool 1.5.0: CloudPool updates itself

Choose a tag to compare

@zubairkhan778 zubairkhan778 released this 20 Sep 19:57

From this version on, CloudPool can update itself. Install this one by hand, and the next one is a button.

A new version arrives in CloudPool

  • When a new version is out, a line appears at the bottom of the sidebar. Press it to see what changed.
  • Update downloads the file for your computer, checks it against the checksum published on the website, then closes CloudPool and opens it again as the new version.
  • Your login, accounts, drives and settings stay exactly as they are, and a drive you had open in Finder or File Explorer comes back by itself.
  • Nothing downloads or installs on its own. CloudPool looks once a day and waits for you.

How each computer gets it

  • Mac: the new app replaces the old one, and the old one is put back if anything goes wrong.
  • Windows: the installer runs quietly, with no administrator prompt, and starts CloudPool again.
  • Linux AppImage: the new file takes the place of the running one.
  • Linux .deb: installing one needs an administrator, so CloudPool downloads it and shows it in your file manager.

Also

  • Settings, About says which version you have and when CloudPool last looked, with Check now.
  • The menu bar offers the update too.

Install this over your current version; nothing is lost.

CloudPool 1.4.2: the files you already have

Choose a tag to compare

@zubairkhan778 zubairkhan778 released this 20 Sep 19:06

Connect an account you already use, and its files are in your drive at once.

The files you already have

  • A TeraBox with 30 GB of films in it shows those folders the moment it joins your drive. Nothing is moved, copied or hidden: a drive is your accounts merged, and an account brings what it holds.
  • A window you have open now follows along by itself. Adding, reconnecting or moving an account reloads the folder you are looking at, in every window.

Quicker connecting

  • A sign-in is already told how full an account is, and CloudPool keeps that answer instead of asking the service a second time.
  • TeraBox is asked who it is, how full it is and what is in it in one round of calls.

The right TeraBox account, again

  • The sign-in now also shows what is at the top of the account it found ("Already in it: Videos, Images, Documents and 5 more"), so an empty new account is obvious before anything is added.

Install this over your current version; your login and accounts stay.
