Zync v2.33.8
Release Notes - Zync v2.33.8
Release date: 2026-09-29
What's New
Zync v2.33.8 makes file editing more dependable and introduces isolated plugin pane assets. File contents stay visible, saves report their true outcome, and unsaved changes are protected when closing workspace panes.
Highlights:
- Visible file contents: CodeMirror's text and line-number gutter render correctly, including after switching panes.
- Reliable saves: Editor providers wait for a successful write before marking a file saved; edits made during a save remain intact.
- Safer workspace closing: An unsaved file prevents its pane or terminal group from closing until you review it.
- Plugin pane assets: Isolated plugin panes can load their package's CSS, JavaScript, images, and fonts through the new resource route.
- Clearer editor status: The bottom bar can show cursor position and language for editor providers and the plain fallback editor.
- Monaco-powered Zedit: The separately published Zedit editor plugin is available for users who prefer Monaco.

Added
- Editor status reporting: Editor providers can report the current line, column, and language to Zync's bottom status bar. The plain fallback editor now shows its line and column there too. (4506f1a)
- Isolated plugin panes: Package-relative pane assets are served from a dedicated resource route. The SDK starter and validator support external pane assets for compatible Zync versions. (ca4162a)
Changed
- Plugin editor header: A compact Zync-styled header shows the filename, provider, readiness, save state, and close action. (74294c3)
Fixed
- Blank or misaligned editor content: CodeMirror re-measures when a retained pane becomes visible or changes size. Its generated styles also work with the installed app's content-security policy, keeping file content beside the gutter. (74294c3, 79efc6c)
- Plugin editor startup and reloads: Providers recover when their first ready message arrives early, while duplicate ready messages and reloads no longer disrupt the open document. Older providers remain compatible with the bootstrap handshake. (74294c3, cb451f4)
- Save state and disconnected saves: Plugin editors show a file as saved only after its write succeeds. Failed or disconnected saves keep the editor open and its unsaved changes marked. (79efc6c, be072ad, 0854ed3)
- Edits during a save: The plain fallback editor retains edits typed while an earlier save is in progress. A completed save cannot change the state of a different document. (1c8a8aa)
- Unsaved Files panes: Closing a Files pane, feature tab, connection tab, or shell-owned pane group no longer silently discards an unsaved file. Close the editor first to review or discard its changes. (1c8a8aa, 6e90c71)
- Correct save destination: A file stays tied to the connection and path where it was opened. Late reads from a previous connection are ignored rather than opening in the new connection's editor. (4506f1a)
- Large-file safety: The editor refuses files larger than 8 MiB and bounds local and SSH reads even when the listed size is missing or stale. It never opens a truncated document that could overwrite unseen content; other file operations are unaffected. (75aec9c)
- Plugin pane asset loading: Asset responses allow loading from sandboxed panes while retaining their content type, cache-control, and
nosniffheaders. (ca4162a) - SDK pane tooling: The preview shim preserves the document doctype when a pane has no
<head>. Package validation checks actual resource elements andsrcsetreferences without mistaking comments or script text for asset links. (309aa26, 5283448)

Quick Check After Upgrade
- File editor: Open a file in the installed app. Its content and gutter should remain visible after switching panes and returning.
- Saves: Edit and save a file. Confirm Modified clears only after the save succeeds, and that edits made during a save remain visible.
- Unsaved changes: Try closing a Files pane or terminal group while a file has unsaved edits. The editor should remain open.
- Large files: Try opening a file larger than 8 MiB. Zync should refuse it without loading a partial document.
- Plugin panes: Open an installed plugin with external pane assets and confirm its layout, icons, and controls are styled correctly.
- Version: Settings → About shows
