Closing Thoughts

One question we haven't posed is why use Rails for an API? Why not a lighter framework like Sinatra? I can't answer that question in great detail, but Santiago Pastorino's rails-api gem has a helpful README that goes into great detail of what Rails provides outside of HTML rendering.

You might even consider using this gem instead of Rails in its entirety for your API.
