What's new
- Gamepad buttons support customization, and default control bounds now follow the logical canvas.
- Gamepad glyph, rim and fill opacity are controlled independently, with refined defaults for overlay visibility.
- Updated examples include refined Tomb Explorer controls and improved Jump Jump sound and charge cues.
- Companion firmware 0.9.4 reports private KV usage, clears private data on explicit uninstall, and defaults to 16 KiB per AppId and 4 KiB per value. Updating an installed App preserves its data; earlier Hosts retain their configured quotas.
- Firmware 0.9.4 also updates app launch feedback, image loading, storage handling and device volume behavior. Existing installed Bundles remain installed during Host-only updates.
Installation and compatibility
Existing projects remain version-pinned; upgrades and rollbacks are explicit. Upgrading from 0.16.0 still requires running the new installer to fix Ctrl-C handling in the launcher.
The Windows installer is unsigned. Windows 11 and some S31/S3 acceptance checks are complete; Windows 10 and remaining manual checks are still pending.
Automated installation lifecycle checks and builds for both architectures passed. Verification fixtures and evidence are maintained separately from user downloads.

Changes
- SenseCAP Watcher gains local control over its UART bridge, screenshot capture, Host master volume and battery/external-power reporting. Battery snapshots stay on the I2C worker; failed expander reads are reported as unavailable.
- Local-control transports lock actual log output while writing a frame, preventing Host logs from mixing with responses and screenshots.
- Factory Snake and Blocks adapt their HUD text to narrow safe areas. The companion SDK 0.20.2 adds Flex intrinsic sizing with correct padding and row/column dimensions.
Updating
Host-only OTA preserves installed apps and their Bundles; it does not replace them with the updated factory versions. Rebuild or update Snake/Blocks separately to obtain the Guest changes. Full installation contains the updated factory apps. Existing SDK 0.20.1 Bundles remain compatible; no new ABI or toolchain is required by the Flex changes.
Validation coverage
All six release Host builds, both Guest architectures, image capacity/provenance/checksum validation and SDK installation/public-download checks passed. The implementation was tested on SZPI for Flex sizing, Snake/Blocks gameplay, 100 screenshots/status queries under Host logging, and failed-install recovery. The author reported Watcher control, screenshots, volume, charging and Snake checks.
Final CI images have not been flashed on every board. Watcher UART stress, I2C/ADC fault injection and S31 TinyUSB stress remain outstanding. Preview board status is unchanged.

Changes
- Add SenseCAP Watcher preview support, including its round display layout, rotary navigation, touch controller and audio output.
- Keep the App Hall rotary selection highlight opt-in, removing the unintended green outline on touch-only boards.
- Use 35-row internal display buffers on SZPI, releasing 9.375 KiB SRAM compared with 40 rows while retaining near-40-row Earth Garden performance. Other boards retain their display-buffer defaults.
- Restore a retained app frame immediately when leaving Wi-Fi settings, even if the app submits no changed scene or reconnection is still pending.
- Improve polled touch release handling and add Windows-native firmware build tooling and UI font packaging tools.
- Reuse SDK 0.20.1; no SDK, runtime ABI or Guest packaging-input change is required.
Validation and limitations
GitHub Actions completed successfully for all six board Hosts, both Guest architectures and final image assembly. Source, SDK compatibility, release configuration, flash capacity, embedded OTA images and artifact checksums were verified. CoreS3 required a retry after an upstream tool download returned HTTP 500; the retry passed.
The underlying UI changes passed local Host regressions, formatting/architecture checks and 49 firmware/font tool tests. S31 and P4 completed Host build/flash and Hall/application checks. SZPI additionally passed repeated application start/stop, static-app Wi-Fi return and reconnection checks, with no AES allocation or Socket ENOMEM errors in those runs. The release pipeline's board capacity, image integrity, matrix selection and SDK-reuse tests passed (11 tests).
The SZPI memory checks are bounded tests, not a guarantee for every workload. Watcher-specific physical display, rotary, touch and audio acceptance was not performed on the maintainer's connected hardware. ESP-Mosaico and ESP32-S3 targets remain preview targets.
