The Dragon Age: Origins (Xbox 360) recompilation: motion blur, HDR quality High, and a vsync fix.

You need your own copy of the game as an Xbox 360 disc image (title 454108C0). This download contains no game code or data; the installer builds the game from your ISO on your PC.

Install or update (Windows)

  • Updating from v0.3.x or later: the launcher offers this update itself (Update on its main menu). You can also run the new DAORecomp.exe and pick the same install folder.
  • New install, or updating from v0.2.0 or older: download DAORecomp.exe below and run it. It isn't code-signed, so Windows may warn: More info → Run anyway. Pick the ISO and an install folder, accept the build tools license, and press Install. When it's done, the same exe becomes the game's launcher. An update only rebuilds what changed, and your saves, settings and mods are kept.
  • DAORecomp-Installer.exe is the same file under its old name, for launchers before v0.5.2.

New

  • Motion blur: Off (the default), Low or High, in the Graphics tab and the launcher. It blurs what moves (characters, objects, the camera) from temporal upscaling's motion vectors, so it needs temporal upscaling (FSR 4 or 3.1). The UI stays sharp, and camera cuts in conversations aren't smeared. It costs a little GPU time while the scene moves (about 0.25 ms at 4K on High); off, it costs nothing.
  • HDR quality High: with HDR on, the image stays 16-bit scRGB from the upscaler to the display instead of 10-bit PQ. Meant for temporal upscaling; Standard stays the default.

Fixed

  • VSync above 60 fps: with vsync on and a frame rate preset above 60 (or unlimited), frames waiting for the display could be thrown away, so a 60 Hz display showed fewer than 60 a second. Now none are dropped.
  • Installer downloads: on some PCs downloads failed with CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED; the installer now checks certificates the way Windows does, and explains the usual causes (HTTPS scanning by antivirus, a VPN, the PC's clock) when one still isn't trusted.

Known issues

  • The DLC campaigns have only been checked to start; please report anything that goes wrong in them.
  • Linux (Wine/Proton) is still untested; HDR there depends on the compositor.
