@99ecarvalho 99ecarvalho released this 20 Oct 00:40

linscp 0.7.0 is here — the first official release 🎉

A fast, friendly file manager for moving files between your computer and remote
servers, with the same experience on Linux and Windows. After a run of 0.x
previews, this is the first release out of pre-release.

What you get

  • Side-by-side file management — local and remote panels, with drag-and-drop
    copy, sync, and edit-in-place.
  • Connect to anything — SFTP, FTP, SCP, S3 and WebDAV.
  • Secure — master password, encrypted saved sessions, host-key verification.
  • Two layouts — Commander (dual-pane) or Explorer (single-pane), your choice.
  • Scriptable — drive transfers from the command line using the same saved
    sites as the app.
  • Your settings travel — sites, preferences and scripts work the same on
    Linux and Windows.

@99ecarvalho 99ecarvalho released this 17 Oct 19:21

A pre-release of linscp, a Qt 6 port of WinSCP for Linux and Windows. It runs WinSCP 6.7.1's own core under a new Qt interface. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the WinSCP project.

What's new

This release fills in the parts of WinSCP's interface that linscp was still missing.

Site Manager

  • The Manage menu and right-click menus on the site tree: clone a site, copy its URL or code, open it in PuTTY, back up and import the configuration, and more.
  • Save As and Set Defaults on the Save button; Transfer Settings Rule in the Advanced drop-down.
  • Search for sites (Ctrl+F); rename sites and workspaces in place; drag sites into folders; site colors and notes.
  • Session URLs pasted or typed into the host name box are split into their fields.
  • Anonymous login, and S3 credentials taken from the AWS environment.
  • The Login button's drop-down, with Open in PuTTY.
  • Site Advanced has all of its pages, including PuTTY's terminal settings (Windows) and the private key's Tools menu: Generate New Key Pair with PuTTYgen, and Install Public Key into Server.

Transfers and synchronization

  • The Progress window shows elapsed and remaining time, and can skip a file, move the transfer to the background, act once finished, and limit the speed.
  • Synchronization progress shows times and a progress bar, and can be minimized; the synchronization checklist has WinSCP's right-click menu.

Main window

  • The keys for Go to Tree, Go to Command Line, Go to Address and search.
  • History drop-downs on the panels' Back and Forward buttons.
  • Customize Toolbar in the toolbars' right-click menu.
  • The column header menu on the file lists.
  • Tree and view-style buttons on the panels' navigation bars.
  • The directory trees can be shown left of the file lists.
  • The console's output menu, with Adjust Window.

Prompts

  • At the password prompt you can change the stored password, or remember it for the session.
  • Server banners can be shown in a monospaced font, and links in prompts can be clicked.

Preferences

  • A search box above the page list (Ctrl+F) finds settings by their text.
  • New: the Explorer page, the Window page's options (Login, tab titles, idle disconnect, workspaces), the temporary directory options on the Storage page, "Use default system editor", and the Languages page's "Get more" button.

Drag and drop: dropping files onto a drive works without the shell extension, including on the network drives you list on the Drag & Drop page.

Command line

  • linscp: /synchronize, /edit, /refresh, /explore, /workspace, /rawtransfersettings, /privatekey, download URLs, the logging switches and /help.
  • linscp-cli: /info, /batchsettings, /copyid /identity=<key>, /fingerprintscan and /h. linscp passes these on to linscp-cli, as WinSCP.exe does with its console.

Fixes on Linux

  • Temporary folders are deleted.
  • Folders created with the remote path appended are nested properly.
  • ~/.aws is read for S3 profiles.
  • Sites can be imported from FileZilla (~/.config/filezilla).
  • Paths that differ only in letter case are treated as different files.

These fixes have also been offered to WinSCP (#86, #87, #88).

Known issues:

  • In translated menus and dialogs, two items sometimes share the same keyboard shortcut letter. Pressing it again moves between them.
  • Serbian cannot be chosen yet; choosing it gives Croatian.
  • Edit in PuTTY and Generate New Key Pair with PuTTYgen are on Windows only.

Not yet: code signing, and /dumpcallstack. WinSCP's tips, usage statistics and donor automatic updates are not offered. See the tracker.

@99ecarvalho 99ecarvalho released this 16 Oct 03:07

A pre-release of linscp, a Qt 6 port of WinSCP for Linux and Windows. It runs WinSCP 6.7.1's own core under a new Qt interface. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the WinSCP project.

What's new

  • linscp's own menus and dialogs in every language WinSCP's core can use. Until now they were in English and Brazilian Portuguese only; now there are 53 languages. They follow the language chosen in Preferences > Languages (or --lang=de).
    • Where WinSCP has a translation of the same text (its captions, hints and list columns), it is used, so linscp reads like WinSCP in each language.
    • The rest was translated with WinSCP's terms for that language. These texts have not yet been reviewed by native speakers, so corrections are welcome. Each language is one file, port/qt/translations/linscp_<language>.ts.
    • WinSCP has no Hindi, Albanian or Armenian texts, and few in Afrikaans, Galician, Bengali or Latvian. In these languages linscp's own texts are translated but WinSCP's messages stay mostly in English.
  • Screenshots in the README.

Known issues:

  • In translated menus and dialogs, two items sometimes share the same keyboard shortcut letter. Pressing it again moves between them.
  • Serbian cannot be chosen yet; choosing it gives Croatian.

Not yet: code signing. WinSCP's tips, usage statistics and donor automatic updates are not offered. See the tracker.

@99ecarvalho 99ecarvalho released this 15 Oct 21:28

A pre-release of linscp, a Qt 6 port of WinSCP for Linux and Windows. It runs WinSCP 6.7.1's own core under a new Qt interface. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the WinSCP project.

What's new

  • The Explorer interface, WinSCP's second one: Preferences > Interface > Explorer, applied on the next start.
    • The remote panel alone, with the folder tree beside it and an address bar.
    • WinSCP's Explorer menus, toolbars and keys.
    • Large icons, small icons, list, details and thumbnails.
    • Downloads go to the last local folder chosen.
  • The remaining Preferences pages:
    • Environment: every confirmation (transfers, drag and drop, deleting, closing sessions, the synchronization summary, continue on error) and the notifications (a beep when long work finishes, tray balloons, taskbar flashing).
    • Interface: the interface itself, and a Light/Dark/Automatic theme.
    • Panels > Remote: hide inaccessible directories; refresh after operations; refresh every so many seconds.
    • Panels > Local: keep the local directory when switching tabs; delete to the trash.
    • Drag & Drop: the temporary folder's free-space warning, and on Windows the fake-file drag.
    • Updates: a periodic check (off by default), beta versions, a proxy.
    • Preferences is now laid out as WinSCP's tree.
  • Custom command extensions (WinSCP's .WinSCPextension files), in Preferences > Commands.
    • Add one from a file or a URL (winscp.net's extension pages work), configure its options, and run it from the menus.
    • The Windows packages include WinSCP's .NET assembly, so WinSCP's own PowerShell extensions (Archive and Download, Verify Checksum and others) run with linscp.
  • Windows:
    • Jump list: the taskbar's Recent Sites and Recent Workspaces.
    • Shell context menu: Explorer's own menu for local files ("System Menu", or on every right-click with Panels > Local's option).
    • Drag & drop shell extension: WinSCP's, so remote files dragged into an Explorer folder download straight there. The installer registers it unless WinSCP's own copy is already registered; the same extension serves both.

Not yet: linscp's own dialogs are translated only into Brazilian Portuguese (WinSCP's texts follow every language it has). WinSCP's tips, usage statistics and donor automatic updates are not offered. See the tracker.

@99ecarvalho 99ecarvalho released this 15 Oct 16:18

A pre-release of linscp, a Qt 6 port of WinSCP for Linux and Windows. It runs WinSCP 6.7.1's own core under a new Qt interface. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the WinSCP project.

Upgrade from 0.2.0: Help > Check for Updates crashes 0.2.0 on Linux, and the 0.2.0 Windows packages could not make HTTPS requests at all. Both are fixed here.

What's new

  • The rest of WinSCP's Commander menus (P3-15):
    • Panels: View > Thumbnails, with local and remote previews; the panels' Type column, the Sort menu and the column layout commands; Change Drive, Change Directory and the panels' path menus; Restore Selection.
    • Command line: the command line and Insert to Command Line, with WinSCP's command histories.
    • Queue: the queue commands in Commands > Queue and in the queue list; Queue > File List; Options > Queue > Once Empty (sleep or shut down).
    • Files and tabs: Files > Upload/Download, New > Link and Locking; Tabs > Color.
    • Help, toolbars and options: Help's pages, Check for Updates, the Update button and Help > Donate; the Hot Keys toolbar; the Options toggles for tabs, the panel status bar and the queue toolbar.
  • Portable mode:
    • Windows: a new zip package. Unzip it anywhere and the configuration is kept in linscp.ini beside the program; linscp-cli shares it.
    • Linux: put a WinSCP.ini next to the AppImage and the AppImage uses it.
  • Fixes:
    • The Site Manager now saves a new site into the folder you pick, as WinSCP does.
    • The built-in transfer presets showed a stray & ("&Text", "&Binary"); fixed.
    • S3: Properties now work on servers without object ACLs, and on folders that exist only as a prefix.
    • The Windows packages now include the JPEG, GIF and SVG image plugins.
  • Testing: every protocol is now tested against real servers: OpenSSH, vsftpd (FTP, explicit and implicit FTPS), Apache WebDAV and an S3 server. The full suite runs on Linux, under Wine and natively on Windows.

Not yet: some Preferences pages (Environment, Interface, Updates, Drag & Drop, and the panels' Remote and Local pages) and custom command extensions. See the tracker.

@99ecarvalho 99ecarvalho released this 15 Oct 10:31

A pre-release of linscp, a Qt 6 port of WinSCP for Linux and Windows. It runs WinSCP 6.7.1's own core, unmodified, under a new Qt interface. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the WinSCP project.

What works: SFTP, SCP, FTP/FTPS, WebDAV and S3; sites, workspaces and session tabs; the two-panel Commander interface with its menus, toolbars and keys; foreground and background (queued) transfers; Synchronize and Keep Remote Directory up to Date; the internal editor; Preferences; WinSCP's translations; linscp-cli, the scripting client. On Linux, configuration is WinSCP's INI format in ~/.config/linscp/WinSCP.ini, so an INI exported from WinSCP on Windows can be copied in.

Not yet: some of WinSCP's less-used Commander commands (tracked as P3-15), thumbnails, custom command extensions. See the tracker.
